Sparkle. Little-seen 70s story about the rise and fall and rise of a black girl group in the 60s. With Philip Michael Thomas and Irene Cara. My favorite scene is at Amateur Night at the Apollo, when the act before them gets yanked off with the hook.

I grew up with the soundtrack - just about every girl relative or family friend had the album - Aretha covered it and it was fantastic.

Nope, and that's what makes her movies so great. Nothing wrong with a cheesy Lifetime movie once and a while (or more, in my case).

Contestant: "Mah name is Doreen Baker, and I'm gonna sing "Lucky Lips"!
MC: "With a face like that, you sho' could use some luck!"

In the middle of her act, he tells the stagehand "go git the hook!", and they yank her no-talent ass off the stage. Then Sparkle comes on and turns it out.

I tried to watch the Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia. I stomached about ten minutes. In that time they showed a crack ho (who was discussing the fact that she had been imprisioned more times than she could count) while her toddler was playing next to her, a parents sticking a cig in a newborn's mouth, and several graphic photos of murders committed by the family.

Everyone I've talked to said this movie/documentary is well worth watching but I'll probably have to do it in 10 minute doses.

The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West
Virginia is awesome!!! Must see!! I promise!!

I watched two French flicks...Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 and Mesrine: Killer Instinct. Both starring Vincent Cassel as French gangster Jacques Mesrine. Great movies, typical gangster flair (quite a bit of over the top violence) but over all very good.

"Summer of '04". A German movie about a family on vacation and two people (a girl and another vacationer) who become intertwined unexpectedly, with a twist at the end. It's the first time I'd heard of Martina Gedeck (in her mid forties in this film), and she is gorgeous and ageless.

Secretariat. Haven't had any interest in watching this AT ALL...but I was pleasantly surprised. Nice feel-good movie. Diane Lane is beautiful. Simply gorgeous.

went to the drive in last night. saw Arthur and Limitless.

I couldn't help but compare Arthur to the original. I did not like it at all. Russell Brand was good, but also, a big fat pain in the ass. His accent annoyed the shit out of me. They could have done so much better with the movie.

Limitless was annoying. Bradley Cooper was miscast (and he was one of the executive producers). His narrative through the movie was awful and boring. After an hour, i couldn't take it anymore, and we left. The storyline was stupid.

Cool. I can't wait to see it.

Mother and Child. Excellent film. It was written by Rodrigo Garcia Barcha who is the son of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It was very touching and thoughtful. It got slow in some places, but the acting was always superb. Naomi Watts was very good as was Annette Bening. I actually shed some tears.

A guy friend sent me a movie, he said I had to watch it, because the actress looked just like me, plus she worked in the same business. That made me curios.

The movie was Morning Glory, starring Rachel McAdams. Flattering, but not really true, lol. I guess if you squint real hard... Anyway, the movie was cute. Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton and Rachel McAdams are adorable in it.
