The Usual Suspects: I never get tired of this movie. Great acting and writing across the board.

It seems like all of the movies I want to see lately get bad reviews from people. The only other movie left that I want to see is 'Law-abiding Citizen.'

I'm starting to think that people don't wanna make good movies anymore.

Yup. I think the only people that really want to make good movies anymore are the independent filmmakers. The big studios just push out crappy movies like it's an assembly line so they can turn a profit for the stockholders.

This is so true. Major studio H'wood flicks seem to be all about the "deal", and not about making quality films.

Exactly. But the American public shares some of the blame for that. People won't go see quality films, but they'll line up to see the crappy movies that have the big explosions, CGI overload & dumb gimmicks, but are short on plot and character development.

Hell, I love a good summer popcorn flick, but I love quality movies, too.

So do I. I know that the upcoming "2012" is a bunch of improbable CGI-laden bullshit, but I still expect to have mindless fun when I see it. But I love a good story and good acting. I get that from indy and/or foreign films.

I just saw the trailer for '2012' during the Yankees game on Tuesday night, and I want to see it for the same reasons you mentioned.

Some of the big CGI action films would be better if Hollywood would make them more character-driven. Instead the majority of them are plot-driven movies that are little more than a series of action sequences strung together involving characters you could care less about. And the characters are usually portrayed by people who can't act.

Severed Ways: The Norse Discovery of America. It was an odd, but really interesting film. One guy directed it and starred in it with a few other actors. The soundtrack is black metal music which was different. i'd never heard of black metal before watching this.

I went to see 'Creation' about Charles Darwin. Interesting, and the IMDB board is mind meltingly hilarious/disturbing. People comparing Darwin to Bin Laden :S

    Where the Wild Things Are

I loved it, my 14 year old son, who I read the book to each night, and even named him after the little boy in the book (Max), had mixed feelings about it. He wanted it to be as simple as the book, and let his imagination fill in the blanks.

It's not for little kids, there were a few in the theater....

It's a dark movie, sad at times, and with a few pretty funny parts (Judith was my favorite character, she's such a bitch).

The book was put out the year I was born, I grew up with it, and watching the movie brought back memories, which was pretty cool for me. It's really a grown up, let your mind wander, nonsense movie with a pretty neat soundrack. It would probably be great to watch high.

Any disaster movie that involves Beyond-Ego getting blown up or stepped on I'll be first in line to see.
