it did get a lot of press when it came out - a mix of great reviews and the usual morally outraged articles denouncing it as depraved and disgusting. but not a lot in the mainstream press and i'm guessing not a very wide release in the US.
great soundtrack too - most of it by lou barlow's side project/band, the folk implosion and some daniel johnston songs.

I watched Kids way back when it first came out, I was in my teens then and the movie really repulsed me, they went for pure shock value and nothing more. I remember in the first few scenes, there is an 11 year old girl getting screwed, I think. There was really no hype around the movie, no one cared if you rented it - I just remember one of my friends asking me if I saw it yet, and we watched it at his house later. It was quite a depressing movie. I'm actually into artsy, depressing movies, but this one didn't do it for me. I just found it so unrealistic. I know kids are screwing around at that age, but the main character was a sociopath, just completely amoral, unlike anything I had ever seen before - and this was presented as the norm. And his friends were the same. Just not a cinematic achievement, at least not for me.

I'm just back from a trip to the cinema, my friends and I went to see Vantage Point and it was absolutely amazing. Dennis Quaid was brilliant and I really love Matthew Fox and Forrest Whittaker too. It was awesome.

Just rewatched Six Degrees of Separation and loved it as much, if not more, as the first time I saw it. Great flick, love Stockard Channing and the real story of David Hampton is more bizarre than the film.

I'd like to think it was fictional, but there are kids who behave like that, and I found the movie pretty realistic. Especially the scene where they all bash the guy in the park to near death. And only after they've done it do they stop and say 'Did we kill that guy?' That's the scariest part of all; they are just savages and they don't CARE. When people don't care about anything, you're in trouble. There are some very good comments over at IMDB.

What frightens me most is that I didn't find it very shocking. Sad to think we live in a world where that is considered 'normal' and people who don't accept thats how teenagers behave are accused of being old fashioned or something along the lines of that. Experimentation is ok as long as it's short-lived, a getting out of the system thing. But when it fucks people up for life, it's not a good thing like it's demonstrated in this movie; Jennie gets HIV from one reckless sexual experience. There's no second chances. She'll die, and that's final. But the characters in this movie are so unlikeable I found myself not even caring; I wished AIDS on all of them.

Moi? A star fucker? Let's be grateful I choose to place my admiration int he right places (ducks, HARD). Don't you love that movie? I thought Six Degrees would be right up your alley (no pun intended).

As far as Kids goes...it was interesting rather than good. Chloe was good in it but I still think that little dweeb Harmony is over-rated, but at least he's not Vincent Gallo who is truly foul.

    Atonement

I'm on the fence. I don't know how I feel about this movie. Odd.
