P2.
It was a very good thriller. It had no names in it, but I really enjoyed it.

Jack Frost (1996), by Michael Cooney, at home => I get that this was intentionally silly, but still, what a stupid film! The only good part was the one I'd already seen and is available for all on youtube: Shannon Elizabeth getting raped to death by a snowman.
Step Up 2 The Streets, at the cinema => the first one was pretty good. Conventional and unoriginal in every way, but completely watchable. This one however... it basically feels like they filmed some dance scenes then someone went "huh guys? shouldn't we have a story too?". So you basically have random moments of cliché dialogue popping up now and again. And the worst part is not that it's cliché, it's that they didn't polish the clichés, it's basically "cliché in the rough". The actors try their best, but there'sonly so much they can do... When I think that it took two screenwriters for this...*shudder*...and I'd say even the dance sequences were more impressive in the first one. A disappointment.
Sholay (1975), by Ramesh Sippy, on DVD => An indian hommage to westerns this film stayed in cinemas for 10 years to packed theaters...imagine the revenue had this been in the US! Anyway the film is indeed pretty good and really does feel like a western despite not being one, which is quite interesting.
Cast Away (2000), at home => my second time watching it, it really is a great film and Wilson should have won an award or something.
Les Brigades Du Tigre (2006), by Jerome Cornuau, on DVD => An entertaining enough period thriller, not the best of anything, but enjoyable.
Identity (2003), by James Mangold, on DVD => I'd been wanting to see this film for a very long time and was slightly disappointed... Indeed it claims to be very clever but I pretty much figured the whole story out during the opening title sequence... It's still well-made and all, and Alan Silvestri's music is nice, but, well, it held no surprises for me...
Tactical Assault (1998), by Mark Griffiths, on DVD => very low budget air force thriller. I guess all the money was spent on hiring Robert Patrick and Rutger Hauer. I have to say the premise was quite interesting and pretty original (at least I never encountered it), and could make for a great film, given the means.
The Oxford Murders, at the cinema => It was all right, not great. There was a nice long take near the beginning, which is something I always like. The mystery was interesting and all (moreso than Identity!) but it felt like something was missing from the movie.
However, the film I've been seeing the most lately is my own. Indeed you may or may not have noticed that I've been less present here this past week or so... That is because I've been shooting a short film for which I've just now completed the editing (well, sort of, I still want to modify certain things). The filming was a chaotic mess and I was pretty worried, but it turned out alright, I salvaged enough of it through the editing process and am actually quite happy with it now.

I caught a bit of Apocalypto on one of the movie channels before I had to switch channels.
Jesus freakin' Christ there's so much gore and suffering that I really think, after Passion of the Christ was much the same, that Mel Gibson revels in seeing brown people and jews suffer violently, anyone he deems uncivilized or lesser than him. It wasn't even for the sake of making social commentary, like Schindler's List, nor even a study in gore like many a zombie movie or the Saw/Hostel type movies. It's like he just loves seeing his sick fantasies acted out in movies, under the guise of misunderstood art.
Fuck that shit, I'm watching Evita now. I'm still amazed by how much Madonna improved her voice by taking voice lessons for this movie.

Just came back from seeing Untraceable. I didn't know what it was about, just decided on the spur of a moment to see it because I like Diane Lane as an actress. But had I read the plotline first 'A serial killer tortures his victims live on camera, and the more visitors to the website, the faster the victim dies', there's no way in hell I would have gone to see it.
Wow, talk about suspense the whole time. My heart was racing. It also made me lose faith in humanity. It was sick! But I highly recommend it.

Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within (2001), at home => Pretty good, very ecological-minded and asian-themed science-fiction. And was it just me or did Alec Baldwin's character look like Ben Affleck?
Bon Voyage (2003), by Jean-Paul Rappeneau, at home => another 2003 movie I've been wanting to see this WWII Drama/Thriller for a long time, this one didn't disappoint. It wouldn't call it great but it's very well made, from the filming to the acting. The ending is a bit stupid but well...
Never Back Down, at the cinema => Karate Kid meets Fight Club, Fast & Furious style... I really liked it! Pure entertainment, a couple of stupid moments, but I'd say it's one of the 2008 movies which I've enjoyed the most so far, along with Rambo and Taken. Cam Gigandet is typecast, but Sean Faris is a surprise. Also, Amber Heard is all kinds of pretty.
Confession Of Pain (2006), by Andrew Lau & Alan Mak, on DVD => Great cinematography and filming style, truly beautiful to look at. The acting is also superb. The plot however, suffers from a lack of suspense (this is deliberate however). An overall good film, which bears it's title really well, it really is about (inner) pain.
