Ugh.. any of those videogame movies are absolute shit. Purely as film, they're abominations. Horrible acting, horribly written, badly directed (Uwe Boll anybody?) and overall snore inducing. Silent Hill was nonsensical. I don't care how well it recreated a game atmosphere, IT'S A FUCKING FILM. YOU NEED A STORY. Having your lead running around a CG environment, and having nothing coherent happening to her is NOT A STORY.

Resident Evil is just slocky, worthless shit. Paul Anderson, of Alien Vs Predator fame (another stupid, mindless piece of gargabe) should be shot.

Also, anything by Uwe Boll is an automatic FAIL. How that man manages to keep making shit is beyond me.

.. but it was about NOTHING

I watched it with 5 people, and it was interminable to all of us. At the end we just sort of looked at each other and went "... ok?"

Well, I loved Seinfeld too ... and that was about nothing.

Sometimes it's just nice to zone out with a movie that doesn't require any brain power. Maybe that's why I liked it.

I watched American Gangster the other night and I loved it. Denzel Washington makes me love anything that he is in though.

30 days of Night. It was pretty good actually. I expected it to be terrible. But it made me nervous a bit. The vampires were really well done. Even stupid Josh Harnett was good in it. He must be taking acting lessons. And he is SO Suri's Daddy.

I liked that movie up till about the last 3rd, when they all started making really stupid decisions.

Ratcatcher

About a young boy in Glasgow during a huge garbage strike (hence, the rats) in a poorer part of town. It was amazingly well acted (why am I always so shocked that children can do so well in this industry?) and the story line was depressing, but strong. I recomend it to any artsy types who like real life drama and non-Hollywood style endings.

I rewatched two old favorites:

Bacheha-Ye aseman - one of my favorites, just touches me every time I watch it. Such strong performances by two very young actors, one of the few movies to move me to tears, every time I watch it. Great story about humanity in general.

L'Auberge Espagnole - I just really enjoy this movie every time I watch it. I probably prefer its sequel, Les Poupees Russes (mainly because of Audrey Tautou), but this movie always makes me smile.

And I also watched some new movies:

Dan in Real Life - I loved this movie. Really truly loved it. Maybe because of my hormones right now, but I really identified with Dan's character and the pervasive sense of loneliness and loss at the beginning of the movie. Being the loner in a group of happy couples. It just really touched me in many different ways, it made me laugh and it made me (almost) cry.

Stardust - Just a visual feast for the eyes. It really picked up about thirty minutes into the film, the last hour - hour and a half was really amazing. I enjoyed Robert Deniro's performance in this film as well.

Fantastic 4: rise of the silver surfer.... bleh. The first one had better comedic timing and the characters seemed spunkier. Dr Doom was thrown in this one for no reason and had nothing to do except steal the Surfer's stupid surfboard while Galactus tried to eat the earth. Wtf was Dr. Doom going to do if the earth was destroyed? Fly around outer space for all eternity? Idiot.

Rambo 3: 80's action schlock at its best. The only movie where you can watch a helicopter play chicken with a tank. I'm still surprised how well the role fits Stallone, he pulls it on like a glove. Competently directed and fun to watch. Lots of baddies die.
