I don't know about the cheese or dairy but she stated she was a vegetarian and didn't mention vegan on the show.

How about Natalie and Padma's little jokes about the garlic taste being "a prick on your tongue". Good lord, they were just cracking themselves up with their sexual innuendos. Then Padma says it just got bigger in your mouth to which Tom replied "That's usually what happens."

That was one of Natalie's friends that said that. Tom turned beet red. Hilarious!

I was beside myself when they were 'talkin dirty' That is the worst the judges have gotten I think! Hahaha.

Jen should have gone-she is one step from a breakdown. damn.

Mike V. was just a douche. He is just consumed by jealousy and competitive anger. damn again.

Natalie P. was actually much better than I was hoping she would be.

And did the restaurant have no cheese, beans, etc? Hell (if I had the right ingredients) I would have gone Mexican or something-endless opportunites with beans, rice, cheese, sauces, etc. There must have been more restrictions or the Craftsteak pantry was pretty bare(or the cheftestants just particularly lacking in this challenge). The food was mostly rather boring looking and did not look very filling. Hell if you are eating nearly nothing but veggies you need a LARGER helping, not a smaller one!

I am sure they did-remember the fresh garbanzo beans? They got about 4 apiece! This was not a hard thing to do,but they were all blown over. Good grief-I am sure any of us could have whipped up something delicious in no time. They had better shape up-everyone likes good veggies & you'd think they would know that. I think they were focused on trying to be trendy. Tasty won. Veggie chili would have knocked them out!

Yeah, those four beans really did up the protein content - haha.

Mike I's leeks looked as appetizing as dirty gym socks.

I was confused last night as well. Natalie said she was a vegetarian. But, I'm pretty sure she's actually a vegan which is why no chesses or eggs were used.

I really wonder what the Volt brothers childhood was like. Sounded like their parents were divorced and they lived with their dad. Must have been a hell of a competitive childhood in that house, eeck!! I think they are both complete jerks. In the one episode where Mike V. was in the bottom Brian was a dick when they were discussing the dishes and yelled at everyone about not talking about it. Mike seems like the kind of guy that even when he's wrong he will just talk over you and then walk away so that he can always get the last word. Ugg, I would hate to work with either of them. I coudln't believe Mikes comments about how amateur Kevin's dish was. What an ass.

Kevin better win the whole thing. He is always in the top 3 or winning it all. He's obviously the best.

Oh yeah? Well you didn't, bitch. Suck it.

This sounds like either Natalie or Bravo decided that a "vegetarian" meal would sound better for TV than a vegan one. Why not explain what a vegan meal really is? Is someone at Bravo afraid of being associated with veganism? I mean after reading her vegan manifesto here I wonder why NP went along with it?

Didn't Zoey Deschanel request a vegan meal on Top Chef Masters? Maybe Bravo thought that they'd covered that label already somehow.

But none of the cheftestants used the word vegan either so it must have been a no-no. But, didn't Jennifer shake, rattle and roll a butter sauce all over the place? The food choices served were so insubstantial and lacking that they all (except Kevin's) looked like side dishes. For the last few seasons, I think Bravo has seriously underestimated the food knowledge of their viewers and it's starting to get insulting.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if it was some stupid reason like that. It just seems like a pointless "lie" by omission.

There was plenty of dairy used, though it was not talked about - take a look at Kevin's recipe!

Also an interview with Mike said the only ingredient restriction was meat.

So Natalie must be a vegetarian.

I don't think she is vegan at all-she kept saying "Where is the protein here?". I think some of the idiot chefs were confused about it & decided not to ask or admit it. Or just wanted a more exotic look. Most of them could have been sent home for stupidity. They could have done so many other things!
I also think the producers would have been even more gleeful had she been vegan. I mean,in a steak house yet! That would have been even better!

I agree McJag, they woulda milked it if she wanted it vegan. I mean, they had Zooey Deschanel on Top Chef Masters who is vegetarian, allergic to soy, and gluten free.
