Wow, it must be a drag to be so devoid of willpower or indeed personality that a fictional character actually defines your RL behavior. Let us all be grateful this girl watched SaTC as opposed to, say, Dexter, or she could have gone around killing people instead of fucking them.

If your kids are so incapable of distinguishing between fiction and reality that their actions are dictated by what they watch/read, you've clearly failed as a parent AND a human being.

I agree with this title 100%....the show teaches HORRIBLE values to girls

That's why it's not for girls. Or anyone amoeba-like enough that letting their values be "taught" to them through a TV show would be an issue.

There are shitloads of shows, not to mention movies, with characters that everyone should decidedly NOT be emulating.

SATC is certainly no worse. And actually much, much better...as the women in question are smart, driven and successful in their various fields aside from the fact that ZOMGDZ! they like to fuck....different....guyz!

^ Indeed. It's fiction, not an after-school special. It's not its job to teach anyone values.

I find it really odd that some people seem to hold certain shows up as exemplars of values and role models, while others get a free pass to be just what they are, which is fiction. Nobody expects The Sopranos, MASH, Cheers, Frasier, Dexter, The X-Files, Star Trek, Seinfeld - or pretty much any show with a male-dominated or mixed cast - to teach values to their viewers. But take a show with no laugh track that happens to focus on female characters, and suddenly its charged with the burden of providing positive female role models to the viewing audience. I'd really like to know why that is.

Duh, because women are defined first and foremost by the gender. It doesn't matter what a character's backstory, personality or plot purpose is, what we should look at is how they measure up to society's feminity ideal. Much like black characters are only allowed to be black and gay characters are only allowed to be gay!

Nothing odd about sexism and double standards, just sad that they keep renewing themselves to get passed down to the next generations.

"Lisa" obviously always had some sort of problem dealing with reality, especially if she let a tv show dictate the entire compass of her personality. I guess she forgot that she was looking at the character of a woman in her 40's. Stupid twat.
