Yeah, that's what I recall, too. I remember that it went so far as to have Louis playing solitaire and her walking in the door, but you didn't know if she was going to be herself like Louis thought she would because he didn't wait as long as he did with Gage, or if she was evil. I think that's basically exactly how the movie ended, except in the movie as they kiss she's reaching for a weapon (a knife, maybe? I can't remember.)

I loved the book and liked the movie, though I found it rather average.
I am not sure if I should be happy or not, as I fear they'll just do a version that sells better (as you mentioned: more CG, more gore, more boobs).

Loved the book, didn't care for the movie, although my science teacher's son was the star.

I don't think I'd mind a remake as much if they could somehow leave Fred Gwynne in there as Jud Crandall. The guy was one of a kind. You can't replace him.

I am still loyal to the original. I watched it not too long ago. I like it.

Maybe they'll put Beyonce' in it .

Well, that makes it all okay then. If they can turn it into a musical, so she can sing, too, that would be just perfect!

The book ended with him burying his wife, and then waiting for her in the kitchen. And eventually, the door opens behind him, and he hears a gravelly "darling..." behind him.

If I remember correctly, the book has the harrowing scene of the guy taking his son's body to the burial ground (to the tune of the Ramone's "Blitzkrieg Bop" in his head -- "hey, ho, let's go!"). Later on, the Ramones actually recorded the title track for the movie. Something like, "it's no fun to be buried, in a pet cemetary...."

In looking up the plot of the book, I think I was wrong to say that the movie plot deviated widely from it. There was a lot of mayhem in the movie, just like the book, but the characterization of the son is different (in the book he can speak and taunt the father), but I only recall the boy in the movie mindlessly walking around and killing people.

And in case Grimmlok is reading this -- there are multiple Wendigo and cannibalism references in the book.

Some great songs could come outta that one.

^Wendigos were believed to be spirits that roamed the woods and possessed people, and made them become cannibals.
I was actually happy they left out the wendigo part, it would have been silly in the movie.

There are different versions of the myth, a spirit and a creature. There are all sorts of 'sightings' of the wendigo in legend, much like Bigfoot

The whacked out Canadian who beheaded a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus in Manitoba and started eating him is rumored by the superstitious to have been posessed by a Wendigo, which is why we're poking at Grimm.

    Yes.

The movie ended with Rachel coming back and them kissing, then I think she has a knife behind her back to kill him.

The book had a funeral home scene that was so emotional, it made me cry. Movies can't capture that.

I really hated the second one, especially the scene with the poor dog..and the motorcycle scene. Anyways, maybe they'll actually make this movie better? I doubt it, but I am curious as to see where they'll go with this one.
Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable.
