And there's always the infamous Liz Taylor Tracheotomy oscar, which she received for Butterfield 8. Now wasn't she against Shirley Maclaine for The Apartment that year?

I never even found Liz that attractive either. I cannot understand what people saw in her.

She was quite striking in her tweens and teens. Even her early twenties...you see her in National Velvet or Father of the Bride and think, what a striking young lady!

Then you see her in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and think, "Damn, was she well cast. An overly dramatic, chain-smoking cheerleader past her prime married to a gay football player? Ayep. That fits."

Liz was a great beauty, not so great an actress, but she definitely has that certain something that makes you watch.

She was famous because she had purple eyes.

    You heard me, purple.

^^ I agree Grimm. People can argue all day long, but I met her in person once, back in the 80s before colored contacts, and her eyes were definitely a purplish shade of blue.

In her day, she was divine. Later, she and Divine could have been twins.

ITA, she may have been one of the first who was more a movie STAR than
    an actress.

Uhm, in showbiz colored contacts were used way back in the sixties.
I know Elvis wore brown contacts in two of his movies. However, they
were so thick and plain bad on the eyes, that a person could not wear
them longer than 1, 2 hours at a time, tops, and then still end up with
    eye infections.
Liz' eyes, however, have been violet since birth.

Remember in 30 Rock when Rachel Dratch played Liz Taylor and they just kept showing a closeup of her purple eyes? And then she beats the crap out of Josh while screaming "WHITE DIAMONDS!"

....that was cool [/Chris Farley again]

I thought Cuba was his best in Boyz in the Hood. That performance deserved an Oscar over Jerry Maguire.

I agree. I also met her in person and her eyes were how you described. She's not an especially good actress, but she's better than a lot of what passes for good acting these days re the Hollywood bimbo/actress/model whatevers.

I rented Primal Fear because of everyone talking about it this week. Just starting it now. I'm already noticing that I recognize nearly every actor onscreen. Such a great cast.

I agree about Boyz in the Hood. Cuba has only done a few good movies since winning his Oscar, the rest have been crap.
