I agree with Morgan Freeman getting one for Shawshank; and Edward Norton was fucking amazing in Primal Fear...

personally i found dead man walking a wee bit sanctimonious and heavy-handed. it was a good movie and a good performance but i liked nic cage's vomiting and alcoholic pathos better.

I hate Shawshank Redemption. I truly do. It's an alright film, but it's not frickin' Jesus or something. It's schmaltzy schlock masquarading as art.

And woo, Morgan Freeman really stepping outside the box to play, yet again and as always, the older black mentor to a younger white guy who spouts stupid nonsensical and trite crap like "Either you get busy livin' or get busy dyin'."

    Thanks, Sherlock.

*grrr h8 that movie and everyone who seems taken by its shallowness*

I think Angelina Jolie should give her Oscar back.

Samantha Morton, Catherine Keener, Toni Collette, and Chloe Sevigny were nominated that year, all giving amazing performances, especially Morton, who didn't speak a word throughout the entire movie.

Brittany Murphy gave the most startling and heart-wrenching performance in Girl, Interrupted and she wasn't even nominated.

I also think Robert Mitchum should have been nominated for Cape Fear, and should have won, too.

Sorry Grimm, I love Shawshank. It's about hope. I love movies about hope.

I think they should all return their Oscars, I haven't seen an Oscar worthy movie in a very long time.

Louise Fletcher from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." I saw that movie expecting her to shit gold.. and it kind of sucked, to be honest.

Marisa Tomei... that was completely unexpected.

Shawshank about hope? All I can recall is an old guy killing himself.

Mary Tyler Moore should have won an oscar for Ordinary People. I thought she was fabulous.

I'm no Angelina fan, but she completely deserves her Oscar for Girl, Interrupted. She was amazing.

Yeah, I definitely think Morgan should have won for Shawshank Redemption. Tim Robbins should have won an Oscar for that movie too.

And I think Edward Norton really should have won for American History X, even though he was really good in Primal Fear.

I watched "Girl, Interrupted" wanting to get on the Angelina train--right after she won, and I was underwhelmed. Scenery chewing, tantrum throwing, and then there's Brittany Murphy who was heartbreaking. However, her performance was subtle and real, and lord knows the Academy likes to award tantrums.

All I could see was Angelina spinning around going "LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME! I'M ACTING!"....and that's where my dislike of AJ began.

Denzel should've won for Malcolm X.

Denzel Washington should give his Oscar for Training Day to any one of the other 4 nominees that year. I love Denzel, but Training Day??? Are you serious?? Definitely a political win that year.

Roberto Benigni, that annoying italian dude, walked off with Edward Norton's oscar for American History X. This is probably the worst Oscar decision in history.

Didn't Ang Lee win an Oscar for Brokeback Mountain? I remember Crash getting best picture, and him winning best director. Or am I mixing that up?

And you're right Denzel should have won for Malcolm X.

As for Angelina, I can't comment on Girl Interrupted. Never saw it. Not really planning to see it.
