Well bloody hell, I had no idea - will not be able to look at him the same way again!
Oh yes, I'm a Monk lover too

I adore Monk. Still miss Sharona though, she was the best. I think the actress asked more money and the jerks booted her
I'm sorry about the guy who played Monk's psychiatrist. I wonder how the show will handle it, it would be hard for Monk to go to someone new.

Ausiello Scoop: Hector Elizondo Joining Monk - Ausiello Report | TVGuide.com
« Ausiello ReportExclusive: Hector Elizondo Shrinks to Fit Monk
Hector Elizondo by Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.com
Well, we kinda knew Monk couldn't go too long without an analyst, right? So, tragic as is the April 8 death of Stanley Kamel — aka the neurotic's Dr. Kroger — a USA Network spokesperson confirms to me exclusively that Hector Elizondo has been tapped to join Monk as Tony Shalhoub's new shrink. There's no word on how his character will be introduced, but he'll first turn up in the show's seventh season premiere on July 18.
On a related note, Elizondo's hiring would seem to signal that CBS' Cane is a goner.
So what's your take, peeps? Will you have a harder time adjusting to seeing Monk on someone else's couch than he'll have being on someone else's couch? Or do you remember Elizondo so fondly from Pretty Woman and The Princess Diaries that you'll actually be psyched to see him take a role on a show you actually watch? Share your thoughts below!

^ Thanks for the info! I loved Elizondo in Chicago Hope so it's a welcome new face for me. I'm sure Monk will have a bit of a freak out. I'm curious how the show will bring on the change.

His freakouts are the best. This is just another opportunity for the show to showcase one. I can't wait.
Hey, isn't Monk on a network now? Is it CBS or NBC? *off to check* It's NBC. But I'm not clear if it's going to be reruns on NBC or if it's going to run concurrently with the USA episodes? USA site says new season is premiering in July?

Wow, I think Elizondo is a great choice!
I was so, so sad to hear about Stanley Kamel. I hear he was a lovely man in real life, too.

I just read that Hector Elizondo has been cast as the new psychiatrist on Monk! I loved him as the body guard in Princess Diaries so I was excited to see him added onto one of my favorite shows. I think he will make for some interesting interactions with Monk!

I was just thinking about this show today. Is the new season out yet, where he has to find a new shrink?? I am curious how the writers will handle that...I'm sure hilarity will ensue somehow.
*edit: I just looked it up at the Monk site, the new season will start soon: July 18th at 9pm.

The weird thing is that there is an episode named Monk Gets a New Shrink tomorrow when USA does a marathon. Did they introduce the new shrink in the last season already? I'll be watching tomorrow as I don't ever follow TV shows during the season.

They did.....he briefly had a "new" shrink, who was missing half his arm. Monk kept saying he liked Dr. Kroger because he was "symmetrical."

Oh Yes.. This is Hector Elizondo's first season on Monk. The previous actor who played his orginal psychiatrist passed away recently. Hector Elizondo will play a brand new character. And yes, it returns next Friday at 9 with an episode titled "Mr. Monk Buys a House"
