Yea, the alzheimers episode was rough. But good. Liking what I am seeing so far, with the exception of the little Gkenn kid. Don't like him.

So I caught yesterdays episode, at freaking 3 am! Couldn't sleep and didn't see the first 10 minutes or so. I'm a bit confused...
Don is in California, and the firm is merging? Who is that chick Don is with? His exwife??
And kudos to Peggy for getting that corner office!

That was the real Don Draper's widow. Somehow, she found out years ago that someone was using her husband's name and looked him up. He came clean with her and they ended up living together, platonically, as man and wife until he met Betty. He's been supporting her all these years and bought her the house she lives in.

Ummm...the scene where Joan's boyfriend essentially rapes her in Don's office? That was uncomfortable. What a creep! Guess she's so desperate to get married to a seemingly "great" guy that she's willing to overlook that little issue? Eeek! I think last season she had a great body, but this season she's getting just a little too thick for my tastes. Still curvy, which is great, but just a little toooo much.
And what was the point of Betty starting her period while sitting on the couch? Maybe something's wrong with her? Otherwise, it just seemed like a kind of gross inclusion for, as of yet, no reason. Any thoughts on that?

Did you notice when Joan's boyfriend raped her he shoved her head aside so he wouldn't have to look at her face? I think Joan realized in that moment that it's dawning on him that she's too sexually experienced to qualify as wife material. He's treating her like trash as a consequence, and since her attempt to advance in the company fell through she feels she has no choice but to endure his treatment, hoping he will still marry her.
I don't know what the significance was of Betty starting her period like that, unless it was to assure the audience that there would be no pregnancy after she and Don had sex at her dad's house.

You know, thinking back on that scene, when he first started to roughly pull at her arms, didn't it seem like it was not all that surprising to her? I think she said something like "not again" or "don't do this" or something along those lines. Like she knew what was coming. The look on her face when he pushed it to the side while he was doing it was so sad. It was like she was going away in her mind.
The more I think about that scene, the more disturbing I actually think it is. On many levels.

^^ I got distracted by something at the very beginning of the scene so I missed what you are talking about, but it sounds like it might be some kind of perverted kink with him to make her feel degraded and used. If so, it's worse than I thought.

Kudos to Peggy for asking for and getting her office. Peter was very gracious about it.
I do think that Joan feels this is her best/last chance to get married.
