Doesn't the US start sending people to Vietnam around that time? I can see Greg going there and getting killed in the story line..... I also think that maybe Abby on to something there. Betty was willing to put up with Don until she found out about his real background. I feel sympathy for Don for being so ashamed of it. However, my sympathy stops when I see how he treated his wife. He screwed everything in a skirt. If he relly loved Betty and the kids so much, why didn't he spend more time with them? I know Betty is a cold woman, but she has probably been like that from day one. He knew what he was getting... a pampered princess. He obviously doesn't want to be married as far as I can tell. As far as him being a great father, sure for that 5 or 10 minutes that he spends with them a day he is great. Betty has them for the other 23 hours and 50 minutes.

Somebody refresh my memory, why did Joan throw the vase at him? He called her a name or insinuated something?

I think he said to her something about that she has never been heartbroken or lost something important.
It must have just brought the memory of her life before him to her, she had Roger and a nice job, now she is nobody and living with a rapist. I got the feeling that she was really missing Roger and got mad that he thinks she hasn't got any real emotion and life because he can only see his own tiny asshole.
I also think Joan must feel like she is everything she doesn't wan't to be, tied down little housewife that cannot express herself sexually.

Yes, '64 was Gulf of Tonkin and the escalation of the Vietnam war.

the great fall of don draper....
really good episode.
i dont know if betty really is that superficial. i'm more inclined to think that now she's seen the 'real' Don Draper, she realized that he's only human, too and weak. which makes her stronger and finally able to say something.
joan and roger will sooooo get together in the next season. *drool*

What's with the old guy (can't remember his name) telling Betty he wants to marry her???
Maybe he should spend more than an hour total with her, and maybe kiss her more than twice (which by the way, is gross to watch and doesn't convey ANY sort of chemistry).
I just started watching this season and maybe I just don't get it - Betty is a cold, frigid and extremely unappealing woman, not only with men, but with her kids...and anyone else she comes in contact with. She's either a REALLY bad actress or horribly written character.

I watched some interviews with the writers of the show. That's the way they want her to be. Has anyone ever read Revolutionary Road? She reminds me so much of some of the chacacters in that book....very cold and detached.

Imo, Betty is suffering from depression and a valium-centric approach to dealing with her problems. I was glad to see her get annoyed at Don for suggesting she take a pill and lie down in order to deal with her stress over the assassination. She's finally decided to confront her problems head on.

I can't believe it was the last episode tonight! Its gone way to fast.
I really liked how they brought the most interesting characters together in the end and started a new company. I'm quite excited to see how it all works out, tho i'm a bit confused about why they picked Pete over Ken? I thought Ken was better that Pete at meeting clients needs etc. I was mostly relieved to see Joan back, and in her element organising and being oh so efficient! I wonder how her awful husband will feel about her going back to work. She certainly seemed in her element and it was sweet that Roger though about bringing her on board.
Im not sure i liked how the Draper marriage is turning out. Im a secret Betty supporter. I don't know why but even though i wanted her to see Don for the cheater he is etc I still somehow wanted them to work it out. Neither of them looked very happy at the prospect of getting a divorce, I though Betty would finally atleast crack a smile at the prospect. I thin Don thinks shes leaving him because he's really Dick Witman. But I thought i was very telling how she said she was never enough for him.
Overall cant wait for the next season!

^^ They want Pete because he's a forward thinker, not so much for his ability to meet clients' needs. Don pretty much explained it in their meeting at the apartment, when Pete asked what his talents were.
I'm glad the Drapers are splitting up. Total mismatch. Although I have to wonder if Betty will be much happier with yet another man who wants to take care of everything for her.

GREAT season finale. I love how they are shaking everything up. Change is in the air! I wonder if the characters who didn't get picked for the new firm are done for on the show? Maybe they're getting rid of dead weight?
I think Betty is doing the right thing in divorcing Don. Neither of them are happy and they have no idea how to make it work. However, she's being extremely dumb in counting on the politician to take care of her. They have not even had a truly meaningful conversation! How does the spoiled brat know he's the one who can give her what she wants? blergh.
I'm so glad Peggy cleared the air with Don. She was so right when she said he uses her to kick when he fails. Don needs to be told about himself on a regular basis. He might have started out as Dick Whitman, but he's Don Draper to his core.
