Old thread, I know, but I rented this over the weekend. I'm a huge fan of John Waters and a huge fan of the original movie. I thought I would at least like this one. I was wrong. I turned it off after about 25 minutes. I just couldn't stomach it.

agree. it's beyond pathetic and awful. i just don't understand how people can like this better than the original. actually i don't understand how people can like it at all. simply awful.

I haven't seen the original, but if Ricki Lake is any more annoying that Nikkie Bleurgh then I would prefer not to.

I loved the original so much, I've seen it countless times. When I saw the new Hairspray in the theater, I had to keep an open mind about enjoying it. It's too easy for me to dislike something if I'm in love with the original. With that being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the remake, maybe because I knew it wouldn't exactly duplicate the original.

I loved it! The only problem I had was with John Travolta. His "acting" was terrible, but he did have some good lines. I laughed, I sang, I danced, I'm a geek... but that's not the point
& not a single fuck was given...
