i think it works precisely because it's such a 'trendy' cause. i mean, in a way it's almost insulting to the very public they're trying to reach because it kind of demonstrates how shallow people are - all 'concerned' about tibetans when it's the topic of conversation at dinner or when it's the cause du jour, but just as quick to brush it off and forget about the serious stuff when it's time to pick a restaurant or buy something cool. if anyone should be offended, it's not tibetans. they're not the ones being mocked. the ones being mocked are... well, everyone. the public. consumers. groupon customers.

...because it must either be false earnestness/"save Tibet" celebs or ironic parody? Sorry, don't buy it.

The purpose of this isn't insightful social commentary. It's an ad, they want maximum exposure, and they figured the way to do it is to do something offensive with the added shield of "oh, we're actually mocking those doing the Tibet thing wrong...".

As I said-fucking hipsters. Sometimes I hate the hipster cluelessness/sexism/racism more than the more straightforward manifestations.
