    There's worse than Dany's storyline : Bran's
God, I wish he did something useful with that kid !

I think Bran's storyline will be the most important one. And I love old Bloodraven so the Bran chapters are kind of cool for a sick Targ fangirl like myself.

Is Dany any closer to Kings Landing in the book?

Also can someone explain the importance of Bran and that tree?

I saw an extended preview of next weeks finale and it looks like someone helps Tyrion escape. Interesting.

I should just shout at you to READ THE BOOKS!!!! but I'm not that rude so:

    1. Dany doesn't move from Meereen until the very last chapter when Drogon swoops in and she flies off on him (this is the first time she's ridden a dragon). At the very end of the book she's out in the wilderness about to run into a horde of Dothraki (who I assume she'll either kill or join up with). Meanwhile the Battle of Meereen is about to go down in Slavers Bay.

    2. Bran ends up in a cave north of the Wall with the Children of the Forest and Bloodraven, who's about 150 years old and is a greenseer like Bran, and they use the weirwoods all over Westeros to see what's going on in the world and also to view the past. Bloodraven sits on a weirwood throne and is basically part of the tree, and Bran is being set up to take over (hence people saying "Bran becomes a tree") although I don't think his story ends in the cave.

Thank God you're here faithanne. I've tried reading the first book (no point starting with later ones) and I just can't. Sorry. I developed a hatred for the fantasy/gothic/magic genre when forced to read The Hobbit at Bedrock High and that hatred has never left me. As a rule I prefer non-fiction books anyway so this GoT stuff is exactly what I don't read. I don't mind being spoon fed a TV show/movie though so I'm going to get the previous series on DVD because there are still some huge gaps in my backstory knowledge. Better late than never!

Fair enough, it wasn't really my cup of tea at first and I could barely get past page 100 but then something clicked and I didn't stop reading for about 3 months. Even though his writing style can be infuriating (pages and pages of descriptions of food, giving every single character a name only to have them never appear again etc) he really knows how to spin a tale and keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Maybe after the TV show has finished you might want to go back and try again - they really are fantastic and all-consuming.

I tried, I really did. I've read as far as Catelyn's chapter and I just couldn't carry on.

It took me maybe 4 tries to get past the first 100 pages of the first book, but this time something clicked. I think a lot of it is because this time I borrowed the audio book from the library, so I'm listening during my commute. But, the first few chapters were drawn out, and I kept getting distracted, and then all of a sudden I was in it and wanted to listen to more. I still zone out during some of the long drawn out political sections, but for the most part it has finally become interesting for me. I'm almost done with book 1 and am on the list to get book 2 soon.

That's what I'm thinking of doing... I won't like myself for it because I bought ALL the damn books... read several hundred pages of the first and then just stopped. Although, I do own all the Harry Potter books and the audio of each of them, so maybe it's ok.

That was pretty amazing and I have no idea what's going to happen next season and it sucks that we have to wait 10 months for season 5

So many loose ends ready for the next season. The Terrible Twins really can't keep their hands off each other can they. If Cercei gets knocked up again she'll have some splaining to do. I knew that Shae whore couldn't be trusted and poor Tyrion really did love her. Pity about Tywin, he was totally my type. I still have no clue what the Scooby Gang was going under that tree with Gandalf.
