I was trying to think of what they ate. I could only remember the doughnuts.

I think we need to figure out an appropriate menu and signature drink.

Since it's on Lifetime, there should be something cheesy as well.

I will have to switch my cable package to get Lifetime, I haven't had it since right after the Anna Nicole Smith "bio pic" aired. My memories of these books are intertwined with listening to Look What The Cat Dragged in by Poison and Hysteria by Def Leppard, both albums on tape on my ghetto blaster while reading.

It was my mom and aunt who had the books that I read.

But on Kindle you don't get the best part of VC Andrews books, the double cover. The cut out circle showing the face of our beautiful, haunted heroine which opens to reveal the full (incestuous) cast of characters in the book, in the painted family portrait.

I read the entire series once, when I was in 6th or 7th grade. After that, I moved on to more kid-friendly fare...Jackie Collins. Being trashy is a genetic condition in my family..lol.

Oh, I do still love me some trash reading. Mindless reading that keeps me entertained but shit that I don't have to have a degree to figure out whodunnit... Something that takes my mind off killing someone and puts it on who's fucking who now...

What happened to the kids' (Cathy, Christopher & twins) father that made the mom move back in with the evil grandma, anyone remember?

I loved the early series that went along with Flowers in the Attic. I would burn through these books when I was in 6th and 7th grade, possibly finishing 1 every 2 days or so. I would sneak them in class because class was so boring and these books were anything but. I remember in drama class they asked us to do a small skit based on a passage in a book, of course I chose Flowers in the Attic. The scene my acting partner and I chose had something to do with Cathy (the oldest daughter, right?) getting slapped. I had blended black eyeliner way down under my eyes and powdered my face very pale white to get that "been snacking on arsenic" look. When it came time for the "slap" our drama teacher said that there was a way to slap someone and make it look real, but it wouldn't hurt. Then she hauled off and slapped me! It hurt. No way would that happen now in public school. Anyway, we played out the scene, my acting partner didn't slap me in the same manner as the teacher had instructed (thank goodness). I still have a collection of these books somewhere, the paperback and the hardcover editions. I collect rare books as an adult, I think these kind of started me in on that though, I was pretty obsessed.

ETA Maybe it was Corrine?? who gets slapped. I am sure someone here remembers this!

If I remember correctly, the mom and dad were related (cousins?), and after the dad was killed in a car wreck(?) the mom was a greedy bitch who agreed to hide her 'debile children' in the attic to appease the grandmother & dying grandfather.
