The Fortune a.k.a. Spite and Malice

You guys MUST check this rather obscure movie out. Warren looks like crap but GOD it's soooooo friggin' funny

Add the original "Guess who's coming to dinner?" with the legendary Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, Hepburn's niece - Katharine Houghton - as their daughter and Sidney Poitier. Also the original "Father of the Bride" with Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor
.
Finally managed to put together a little compilation
of a few funny scenes from one of my all time favorite
comedies/political satires: Ishtar.
Enjoy the excellent singing and dancing of my decrepit
hunk, Warren Beatty with pal Dustin Hoffman!

The tears of laughter that I cry when I watch that movie cannot compare to anything. Les Comperes and Le Chevre with Depardieu make me laugh so hard, but when I watch Ishtar I laugh and shake my head because I can't believe how it touches my funny bone.

It's always great to know yet another person who actually GETS Ishtar,
one of the reasons I like you so much!
Warren can do no wrong by me, but in these clips that I glued together,
I especially love Dustin in the restaurant, first getting the mike in his
face and later giving the waiter who did it the evil look as he sings the
tribute to the anniversary couple. Also, when they do "Little Darlin'", ya
gotta laugh when you see that he as Chuck seems a little startled when
Lyle (Warren) starts his lalala in high pitch. Oh my god, this should have
been a series!

I've uploaded a few of my favorite scenes from one of my
favorite Warren Beatty movies. His movie debut as Bud Stamper
in the classic "Splendor In The Grass" is still hailed as one of
his best performances and as one of the best movie debuts ever.

Enjoy!

A few scenes from the classic Elia Kazan directed movie "Splendor In The
Grass" by playwright William Inge that show the difference between the good
son (Warren Beatty in his big screen debut) and the bad daughter (Barbara
Loden). The overbearing father Ace Stamper (Pat Hingle) tries to control his
children. He has failed to keep his daughter straight and now all the pressure
is on the youngest child, son Bud (Beatty). Forcing Bud to put his love for Deanie
(Natalie Wood) on hold to fulfill his father's dreams, first.

A few more scenes from "Splendor In The Grass". Ace Stamper (Pat Hingle)
burdens his good, sensitive, son Bud Stamper (Warren Beatty) with the
responsibility over his rebellious older sister Ginny Stamper (Barbara Loden)
at the expense of Bud's relationship with Deanie (Natalie Wood).

Bud (Warren Beatty) is suffering physically from the dilemma that made him
break off his relationship with Deanie (Natalie Wood). He seeks advice from
his physician, but is pretty much left in limbo. Bud finally ends up with Juanita,
the school's "easy" girl to release his demons.

Bud's (Warren Beatty) heart aches when Deanie (Natalie Wood) suffers a
mental breakdown. Deanie's mother and Bud's father are in complete denial
about the fact that they are the cause of their children's tragedy.
While Deanie is institutionalized, Bud is sent off to college against his will.
He refuses to follow courses and spends his time grieving over his lost love,
Deanie. Angelina (Zohra Lampert) restores his confidence.

Oops, I see I forgot another favorite:

The Man In The Iron Mask, Richard Chamberlain's 1977 version.
This version is far superior to the later version with Leonardo DiCaprio.
Chamberlain, long dubbed King of the Miniseries, seemed made for
these period pieces, with his gorgeous face.

Louise sees Philippe for the first time. She is not the only one
to notice the resemblance with the king.

Watch this wonderful scene with Chamberlain as the mean, vain, Sun King
Louis, Jenny Agutter as the object of his obsession and Patrick McGoohan
as his (how ironic) Lord Chamberlain.

Philipe before the switch. If the king's mistress is fooled,
then Philippe stands a chance for a successful switch.

Heaven Can Wait, (actor, writer, co-director, producer) Warren Beatty, 1978.
Great cast: the hilarious Charles Grodin, Dyan Cannon in possibly her funniest
part ever, the always wonderful Jack Warden, his former long time lover Julie
Christie and the legendary James Mason.
Story is about an aging football player (Joe Pendleton - Warren Beatty) who
has one last chance, after a long injury, to take part in the Super Bowl but
unfortunately dies prematurely (that being the operative word here, since he
wasn't supposed to die yet).
The head angel (Mason) says Joe has to be put back in his body, but that's
cremated. So they put him in another body and a hilarious and touching story
evolves, while Joe - in his new body - finds romance and still tries to get in
shape for the Super Bowl.

My YouTube blurb:
Heaven Can Wait, the charming 1978 remake of Here comes Mr. Jordan
(1941), is a sweet tragicomedy that enabled Warren Beatty (lead actor,
co-writer, co-director, producer) to fulfill his cinematic dream three years
later when he took on all four roles again with his outstanding movie "Reds".

As with most of his movies, Beatty managed to surround himself with a
cast of the utmost quality, talent and charisma and in doing so, assured
himself of a box-office hit.
The story is about life and death and how love transcends death. In the
1941 movie, the lead character Joe Pendleton was a boxer and Beatty
had originally planned to have his friend Muhammad Ali play that role.
Ali's schedule did not allow it, so Beatty altered the script and turned
the lead into an American football player, a sport he excelled at in his
youth, taking on the role himself. The cast included co-director Buck
Henry as the bumbling escort, James Mason as Mr. Jordan the way
station executive, Dyan Cannon and Charles Grodin as the scheming
wife and personal secretary, Julie Christie as the activist/love-interest
and the always excellent Jack Warden as football coach Max Corkle.
Vincent Gardenia completes the wonderful ensemble with a guest
appearance as the police inspector. All actors are in fine form, especially
veteran Jack Warden. Beatty is at his charming and disarming best.
Deadpan seems invented by Grodin and Dyan Cannon has never been
better. Warden, Mason and Cannon were nominated for Oscars for their
supporting roles, Beatty was nominated in four categories: lead actor,
screenplay, director and producer.
In 2001 Chris Rock gave the subject another try with a third remake
"Down To Earth" that couldn't hold up to its much better predecessors.

The Parallax View (1974) Alan J. Pakula.

Fantastic political thriller directed by Alan J. Pakula (who also directed
All The President's Men) starring Warren Beatty in one of his best roles
ever.
The movie's tagline says it all
"There is no conspiracy. Just twelve people dead."

When a senator is murdered on the campaign trail, the official conclusion
of a commission (not unlike the "Warren Commission" after the assassination
of John F. Kennedy) is, that this was the work of a lone gunman.
Yet, three years after the assassination, Joe Frady (Warren Beatty) is
visited by his ex-girlfriend and fellow reporter (Paula Prentiss) with an
update on how many of those who witnessed the senator's murder, died
before their time as well. Initially, Frady is skeptic. Yet, when his ex ends
up on a slab at the morgue not long after visiting him, he sets out on his
own investigation.
Other co-stars are Hume Cronyn, excellent as always, William Daniels
(who also starred with Beatty in Reds), Kenneth Mars and Walter McGinn
(who also starred in a similarly paranoid thriller "Three Days of the Condor")
as the representative of the mysterious Parallax Corporation.

In this scene Joe (Beatty) is bailed out by his chief editor
(Cronyn) after having been arrested on phony charges by the
police.

This is the classic scene on the plane. Pakula uses the
claustrophobic lack of space on the plane to its fullest and
Beatty proves what a fantastic actor he is in this very tense
scene with almost no dialogue.

The Parallax Corporation's recruitement agent pays Joe
(Beatty) a personal visit.
