Isis is my favorite Downton character!

Possible Spoiler Pics (but I don't think so, looks like mundane things being done by the characters)

She's got used to wowing in glamorous outfits on red carpets galore since the end of Downton Abbey's fourth series.

But Michelle Dockery has had to put her period drama attire back on in her role as Lady Mary Crawley as she was seen shooting new scenes for the programme's upcoming fifth series.
The 32-year-old actress looked typically elegant in a purple coat with matching skirt and boots as she filmed outside a churchyard.

The trio were seen out with Lord Grantham's dog Isis as they shot scenes on a country road.

Plot details for the upcoming fifth series of the ITV show, which is expected to return in the autumn, have remained under wraps and Hugh kept people guessing.

Perfecting her look: The star got her raven-haired locks seen to by a member of the production team at one point

In some of the images the star is seen in character looked concerned while reading a piece of paper, while in other shots he looks cheery.

Lord Grantham was impeccably dressed as always in a long light brown coat and trousers in a darker shade of brown.

Allen was seen wearing a fetching pair of knee-high brown leather boots while chatting to Rob James-Collier, who plays Thomas Barrow.

Who knows what will happen: Plot details for the upcoming fifth series of the show are being kept under wraps, and Hugh was keeping everyone guessing with his facial expressions

    +33

Focused: At times Hugh looked very serious as his character Lord Grantham while clutching hold of a piece of paper

Happy to be back: The star also appeared to be in a cheery mood as he shot new scenes for the upcoming fifth series

    +33

Rob was suited but not booted on set as he appeared to be wearing a pair of trainers.

Dame Maggie Smith was also seen back in costume as her character, Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, filming new scenes for the fifth series in Bampton Village, Oxfordshire on Wednesday.
The actress was joined by Penelope Wilton, who plays Isobel Crawley – the mother of the late Matthew, who is known for her amusing relationship with the Dowager.

Something is making her giggle: Penelope laughed as a lady held a book called Downton Abbey in Bampton, which is of course where they film

While at first the two characters didn’t particularly see eye-to-eye as time has gone by they have developed one to the most enjoyable relationships to watch.
Images from the set sees Maggie in an elegant purple coat, while beside her Penelope wears a more modest grey one – more suited to her character.

New faces on the show are expected, including Richard E. Grant, who will play Simon Bricker, an art historian who is a house guest of the Crawley family. The character appears in four episodes later this year and threatens to ‘cause ructions’.

Rade Serbedzija and Anna Chancellor are also expected to join the cast.

They are back: Dame Maggie Smith and Penelope Wilton were seen filming series 5 of Downton Abbey on Wednesday

A grave conversation: The actresses - who play the Dowager and Isobel Crawley - were seen in a grave yard

    +33

In character: Maggie wore a deep purple coat with a dramatic lapel and an equally as eye-catching hat with feather

    +33

Plenty to say: As per usual the Dowager seemed to have plenty to say to Isobel

    +33

Big as ever: It's thought Maggie's role will be just as, if not more pivotal than in any other series

Meanwhile, the show’s executive producer Gareth Neame recently told The Hollywood Reporter that Maggie’s character will be a key character this series, despite her recently hinting her time on the show was coming to an end.

He said: ‘She's a huge part of the show, and I think she enjoys doing it. I think it's remarkable for someone who's had such a long and illustrious career to be still delivering work of this caliber.

‘One has also really got to make reference to the remarkable combination of [series creator] Julian Fellowes and Maggie Smith. She's almost like a muse to him.’

Six of the saddest Downton Abbey goodbyes ever

    8:00 - 8 Sep 2015

Keep your eyes on the road Matthew...

As we prepare to say farewell to Downton Abbey , let's get in the mood by recalling some of the biggest tear-jerker departures the series has given us.
You'll be wishing you had a freshly ironed hankerchief by the end of this sombre trip down memory lane.

The shock road crash death of Mathew Crawley
Did anyone see that one coming? No, we thought not. Matthew was the happiest he had ever been. For a matter of minutes. Matthew’s jaw-dropping exit on the day he became a father took Mary a very long time to get over and we’re still not sure we’ve recovered.

    Lady Sybil’s passing
Should she or shouldn’t she have had the emergency caesarian? The youngest of the three Crawley girls had only just made Lord and Lady Grantham grandparents when she passed away dramatically of eclampsia. Leaving Tom a widower and Sybbie motherless.

    William’s heroic despatch
Sweetheart to a reluctant Daisy, footman turned soldier William gave his own life to save Matthew. He wasn’t killed instantly, giving him enough time to marry Daisy on his deathbed.

Lavinia Swire succumbs to Spanish flu
Spanish flu swept the house and it looked a lot like Lady Grantham was going to breathe her last but it was Matthew’s fiancé Lavinia who became the virus’s victim. Matthew was wracked with guilt but her death did leave him free to marry Mary.

    Michael Gregson’s grisly end
This one's doubly sad because we had to say goodbye to him twice. Poor Edith was all ready to leave behind her family’s pitying looks - all Micheal had to do was go to Germany and become a citizen so he could aquire a divorce and allow them to marry. Sadly Hitler’s brown shirts had other ideas and finally Micheal, who we hoped was just missing, was declared dead.

    Isis the dog’s dignified demise
Lord Grantham’s faithful ‘other woman’ stuck by his side for five series but lovely labrador Isis is now wagging her tail in the great kennel in the sky

This is the final season? I only just got into the last season or two. I'm watching it. I like that dog, I hate seeing it sick.

The rich old lady is my favorite character, the feisty one. So funny when that old prince that knew her in her 20s tried to hook up with her again. And she's like, "no sorry, that ship has sailed."

That'll be Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham.....

Violet: "I'm so looking forward to seeing your mother again. When I'm with her, I'm reminded of the virtues of the English."
    Matthew: "But isn't she American?"
    Violet
    : "Exactly."
