And, yeah, the girlfriend is annoying as hell. But I can tolerate her. It's the sister that's the real buzzkill for the show. If I was Dexter, and I had to live with her annoying ass, I'd have to tell myself not to kill her on a hourly basis too.
You're right about his arrogance especially when he went into the tent to see his work of art, he was almost enticing the FBI agent to profile him.

And Deb is just like a gnat, you can't stand them but they're so insignificant it doesn't matter. Actually I hate gnats and she should be exterminated. I imagine Deb will be on his list and it will become this inner struggle between the sister he's grown up with and the one who's coming close to figuring out his secrets.

Or maybe Deb will just get so depressed that she'll inhale a can of Raid, and kill two birds with one stone. Dexter's secrets will be safe, and the viewers won't have to hit the mute button when she comes on.

I can't tell if it's the character that is becoming more and more insufferable or me being influenced by all the Deb hatred on this board, but I was so irritated with her this entire episode. I just wanted her off my screen as fast as possible.

^^Honestly, I think it's the actress playing Deb more than the character itself. The character would probably still be annoying with another actress, but she might be more tolerable.

Well I don't feel annoyance toward Deb or Rita. They're both just classically self-suffering female characters with big weaknesses/blind spots toward others. I guess maybe that could be annoying in itself, but everyone has their own issues, I say. It's always easy to see the faults and annoyances in others but when it's you, you can't see the forest for the trees, etc.

Omg, maybe I sympathize because I'm annoying like them???*horrible self-realization*

I dislike the character of Deb but it really is the actress. With Rita, it is the character, pure and simple. She is every stereotype about every abused woman. It is just too easy to write her that way. Now they have her becoming bitchy and "stronger" which they are illustrating through her becoming a smoker. Yep, Rita was the badass girl who smoked in the bathroom between classes. Gimme a break!

I don't mind Deb or Rita. They both have flaws, to be sure, but I happen to enjoy flawed characters, and this show is full of them: Angel is occasionally clueless and seems to have an addiction to self-help books, LaGuerta is manipulative and ruthless, the Asian forensics guy is a big perv, Doakes has serious anger management issues, and oh yeah, the main character is a serial killer. Somehow Deb and Rita's flaws pale by comparison, you know?

Their biggest flaw is an unending capacity for denial and a massive blind spot where Dexter is concerned, and I don't think the show would quite work if either of the two people Dexter was close to were more perceptive as to his true nature.

Debs character doesn't annoy me it's Jennifer Carpenter that annoys me. I can't stand the way she looks, her nose is ugly, her face looks like she's been hit head on with a frying pan, which caused a serious case of flat face, her mouth is lopsided and her hair is flat.

^^Yeah, there's something freakish about her face that I can't stopped staring at when she's on screen. Plus, she can't act for shit.

Same here. The character of Deb is supposed to be a bit annoying. Annoying I can deal with, bad acting is another thing. She's horrible. She does look like something is up with her face. Like she had an accident and had extensive PS and now just covers it with makeup.

One character that does annoy me is the new Lieutenant and her stupid 'obsessed over cheating fiance' storyline. Portraying a woman in a position of power being shit at it because she's 'overly emotional' is a poor choice on behalf of the writers, to say the least.

The sooner LaGuerta executes her secret Machiavellian plan to regain power, the better. Oh, you know there's a plan, I'm not being this 'compassionate LaGuerta' nonsense for a second.

^^Yeah, I'm not buying it either. I can see her pulling a Doakes and walking into the new Lieutenant's office and saying 'Surprise, muthafucka!'

    Hee!

And on that topic, it's precisely what I'm expecting Doakes himself to say to Dexter after bursting in on him midway through making a human shish kebab. Because I don't think someone as obsessive (and granted, for good reason) as Doakes will be satisfied with the 'addict' explanation.

Argh, I can't wait until next week's ep! Haven't been so obsessed with a show since the good old days of Buffy. Before it started sucking.

^^Yeah, Doakes isn't going to buy the addict excuse for a second. I really want to see him and Dexter have it out. That oughta to be funny:

Dexter: Sgt. Doakes, what are you doing here?
Doakes: Shut the fuck up, muthafucka! I got your crazy ass now!
Dexter: Don't make me hurt you, Sgt.
    Doakes: Bitch, please!
