Someone told me that book 3 was not nearly as good as 1 and 2, but still worth the read. Do you think so?

It was OK but no, not as good as books 1 and 2. The plot line is a bit too ridiculous IMO but still probably worth reading.

I'm finding this series very average. While it's keeping me watching, it's just so not that original. The start was so uninspiring that I gave up after episode 5 but just yesterday have gotten back into it and am hoeing through the rest. I have to say the 2nd half of season 1 is much better, it's good to see the actors breaking into their characters better. Especially Rita. God love her. Except I hate that black cop and his "fuck you!!" rationale. I'm hoping he kills someone innocent so Dexter can off him.
I also don't like Dexter's dad and those stupid flashbacks. I know it's not real but I hate how they use a teen actor who looks NOTHING like Michael C. Hall. They may as well have hired a Bollywood dancer for this part. The young Dexter has a dozen large moles on his face, and a huge nose like he's in Roxeanne or something. Anyway the father annoys the frack out of me, must just be beef with the actor who plays him.
Anyway, was uber obvious who the ice truck killer was. I mean oh my God, come on. Give us credit. You don't just pop a character in and make him suddenly important and then in the "previously on..." segment have him say a reall unimportant line. That just gave it away for me. Before that I thought it might be the female chief who has a thing for Dexter.
Anyway I'm enjoying it, have ep 1 & 2 of Season 2 taped from last week... Shall be finished soon. Yay.

Allie, what is your idea of a good show? If this is average, you must be watching something really amazing.

At this point I'm thinking a negative comment from Allie on a show is the equivalent of a glowing recommendation.

Okay look, here's the thing. Pilot= amazing!! I was so excited about what was to come. But then... not much did. Murders, Dexter killing and pointing out how he doesn't feel human, or as I called them: his blah-blah monologues. And the Ice Truck Killer was too obvious to be enjoyed. I was just like "eh". Seriously everyone in the show annoys me, even Dexter... Oh, except for Rita. I stayed till the end of the season for her. Her husband storyline was great.
But that was all for me. I'm sorry! I really wanted to like it, I forced myself at some point... But it bored me. People compare it to Six Feet Under for some reason. Season 3-5 maybe, but not 1-2. How dare they!
Sorry.
It's like... you know that show that everybody you know watches and is in love with, but you don't? I'm feeling like that at the moment! Everyone I know is hooked. I just find the acting (with the exception of Dexter and Rita and the female cop lady - not the sister -) to ve overdramatic and bad. Like why does Debra say fuck every ten seconds? And in public! Unrealistic.

I use the word fuck like that. I have to watch my pottymouth sometimes. I think that's mainly why I'm the only one who likes Deb: I totally identify with her swearing like a sailor and saying inappropriate things in general.
I think you're suffering from overly-hyped theory that I spoke about before. Nothing will live up to the lofty expectations built up by all the hype.

But even once I realised that there was nothing crash hot about this, and entered season 2... even then I was very underwhelmed.
I wish I could be just whelmed!

So, it appears that the season 3 premiere has leaked online. Still downloading, so I'm not sure if it's legit, but is anyone interested? Bee?
