I saw the movie last night and it was hilarious. Almost everyone in the audience was laughing hysterically the whole time. There were a few scenes that it could have done without (like a 10 minute sequence in which Borat and his grotesquely obese friend wrestle each other totally naked... the friend is uncensored), but overall it was so funny. Only one of my friends was offended.

I honestly couldn't tell if the people in this movie were "in on it", with the exception of the ones in a scene at the very end.

That wrestling sequence was only like 5 minutes of filmtime, maybe less. It just felt SO much longer b/c it was so uncomfortable, but there were some great points in that sequence that were so worth it (the guy in the elevator, lol).

There are a lot of threads on IMDB debating how much was staged. It seems that the general consensus is that the majority of it was not staged, but a few scenes were: the part with the bear and the children, the scene at the end with Pamela Anderson (who is a friend of Cohen, so she had to know at least part of what was going on, however I'm not sure she knew she would be put in a sack, she isn't that good at acting...) <--highlight

What? You didn't study Latin in school?

It's Latin for 'so' or 'thus' and is generally used to indicate that something is not a mistake. If you're reading the news and you see "I telled [sic] him not to do it.", the author is letting you know that those are the witness's exact words and not a mistake of the paper.

My mom used to teach me random bits of Latin. It comes in useful sometimes.

Its good to learn something new everyday. Dont feel bad ANC I had an idea of what it meant but Twitchy's explaintion made it more clear for me. I had been told when I was like in the 8th grade but it wasnt explained clearly.

omg i saw it and I'm in shock! I wasn't only laughing; I was literally screaming and so was everyone else!

I've seen many many shocking movies but this one was out there; i couldn't even believe it was legal to release some of the stuff he did, well 1 thing especially...the wrestling scene for all those who've seen it

but it was certainly funny and well worth the money!

it was a riot for certain - i saw it on the opening night and everyone in my theater was roaring with laughter and gasping with horror. wah wah wee wah!

I honestly didn't want to see the movie because I couldn't see how the character was going to be funny for 2 hours! Holy mother of GAWD!! I damn near pissed myself. I went last Friday (opening night) and we were lucky to get four seats together. The theater was jammed! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. The wrestling scene and the great shit scenes

For some reason he reminds me of that guy Andy Kaufman, who was on Taxi (teevee show), and was an amateur wrestler and standup comedian. Borat is very funny, but part of me says that he is dangerously insane, and not in a nice way, like Robin Williams is insane.
Just a gut feeling, but he can put me on the ground laughing anyway...
