Coulda been worse - they could've set it in Boston
Meh, I'm both Irish and Italian (and from NJ, Sopranos much? lol) and neither stereotype bothers me. Yes, I know some people who are *ahem* in the family and yes we do drink a lot, so these stereotypes aren't always that off-base. But you're absolutely right, Hollywood doesn't even try anymore. What was that quote from Not Another Teen Movie? "I'm the token black guy; I'm just supposed to say things like 'bling-bling' and 'that is WHACK!'. "
Haven't seen the show, but isn't it just like "The Brothers McMullin" meets "Southie"?
Hahahaha...Irish/Italian on one side as well and have no problem with stereotyping. I guess because there are, ahem, a number of family members involved in rather interesting lifestyles, which other members of the family prefer not to discuss (daughters of the revolution types). Personally, I see nothing wrong with this sort of thing since it is part of our heritage. Part of my family is bloody snooty beyond words and part comes from a rather unseemly history that some would rather not bring up. I personally find it all very fascinating and can't be bothered to get myself worked up about it. Christ, Great Uncle Tommy the bootlegger/brothel owner/bookie was one of my favorite stories growing up!

The Brothers McMullen is one of my very fav indie movies ever! EVER!!!!
I tried watching The B.D and found the first episode decent enough. I don't think they gave it much of a chance. It had great production value imo. Which is most likely why they dumped it. Too expensive? It should go to HBO.

^^Like that movie very much as well, although Ed Burns has the worst speaking voice I've ever heard come out of a man's mouth, excepting David Beckham.
