A*O I wasn't saying that ALL of them are decent and honest. I didn't intend to make out that dodgy travellers don't exist and that all of them don't commit crimes.

I'm a bit disturbed what the stereotype of gypsies this show is portraying. It is nothing of what I know about traditional (Roma) gypsies. My maternal background as far back at least 4 generations is Gypsy.
I've seen nothing of this sort with my family and also in a facebook group called The Gypsy Chronicles that I follow which celebrates Gypsy culture.
Perhaps because the ones on the show are Travellers? I would say they are like a subdivision of what a true Gypsy is.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Regardless though, bet the show makes for interesting viewing

I can't believe they're putting this on TLC (I mean I can believe it b/c TLC is crap nowadays) but it pisses me off b/c its disgusting, showing child brides, lovely.

^None of these are under 16. Unless I'm mistaken. It's legal to marry at 16 here with parents permission.

I watched the first new episode last night and dvr'd the second. I think that the girl getting married name was Josie. That poor child. she dropped out of school at 11 to do housework. The girls really do get the shitty end of the stick. And all the young girls were saying that they would have it no other way when questioned about the double standards between the boys and the girls (girls can't be alone with boys or they would be scandalized while nothing would happen to the boys). Plus her fiance was so ugly and fat.
ANd lets not forget the blond 15 year old that was being groped by the boy at the wedding. she was almost in tears yet she kept saying that she was fine.

Saw it too. It ticked me off so bad I had to flip the channel. Gypsy? ya right! It looked like one big joke. Thanks to this show, I'm pretty show nowadays if I mention my gypsy heritage, people would think I got married at 16 in a giant cotton candy dress looking (and acting) like a hoochiemama. *rolls eyes*
I know my ancestors are tossing in their graves.

They are not Gypsies, they are Travellers. I think the show should be obligated to make this distinction clear.

    To understand what I mean about the distiction between the two, I found and pasted the following from;
Difference Between Gypsies and Travellers | Difference Between | Gypsies vs Travellers

[Gypsies and Travellers are distinct groupings of wandering people. Both groups are generally considered as nomadic societies that travel from one place to another. For most people, Gypsies and Travellers are one and the same. However, the two groups are totally different from one another.

First of all, the origins of Gypsies and Travellers differ from one another. Experts believed that the Gypsies have Hindu origins. Early Europeans thought that the Gypsy people came from Egypt. On the other hand, the Travellers can trace their origins from a sub-society in Ireland. So it is very common to refer to Travellers as Irish Travellers.

The languages of Gypsies and Travellers are also different. The Gypsy people have a unique language which is closely related to the dialects of the Northern Indian subcontinent. Over the centuries, several Gypsy societies arose and also developed their own distinct languages.]

The two goes much deeper than this. Quite an interesting read when researched!
I still say this show totally and sadly disrespects it all.
Meh, oh well, I guess.... entertainment sells!!
