Australia copy everything America does anyway, so i'm not going to say 'Oh America should just air the Aussie version, why do they copy us'. COME ON. Anyway..

I'll reserve judgement til i actually see the show but i can't see it being funnier than the Australian version because we have the over-the-top accents and Kim was chubby and homely; not slim and sexy like Selma Blair. I just can't see it working.

They should play the Aussie version in the US because it's funny; but i'd hate to think they thought of us all like that. I'm Australian but i loath the image some people have of us.

Allie I was refering to your post 3 before my original in this thread.

I dont give a shit for your "admitted" arguments, I just question your taste ( and understanding of the strine way) - do you feel the need to dictate to the colonies?

You cant honestly praise a paint by numbers recreation of a conciousness deeply embedded in your countrymens psyche....

Can you?

(man you praised US comedy writers for "making it better) - you confuse me big time

And I dont care that much for the original version - go figure

Raspberry, the Australian version would never work on mainstream American TV. The humour and cultural references would just be lost on the average (middle) American. NBC took Coupling and The Office and recreated them using the British scripts verbatim. Coupling lasted 3 episodes I think - the American public hated it - and The Office got off to a rough start but flourished once it started using an original script. These are British comedies, of course, but the same would hold true for Australian shows - even more so. BBC America is doing its part to expose (some of) us to British entertainment and culture. For many, Australia (if they even think about it) is still all about Foster's, great white shark attacks and putting some shrimp on the barbie.
