Hey, let's get David A to sing The Prayer!!! It would be a very interesting comparison and I think he'd nail it too.

OMG don't get me started on the Prayer. Okay yes, good performance. Blah blah. But then came the over-use. The onslaught of Anthony selling it as his first single. And etc. Just like when Damien Leith first did that Operetta thing with the last note being high. Once he got praised, he did it every single damn week. At least then Holden told him he was sick of it.
Aussie Idol is about 500 times crapper than AI. Either the talent is good but actually has no taste in music, or they're annoying (aka: Bobby Flynn- creep anyone?) with their James Morrison style of "barely singing".
:lollers kates: Australian Idol drives me bonkers!!!
Cosima was the only good one and yet look at her first album. Bleurgh!

I agree that Anthony sang The Prayer ad nauseum as it had become his 'signature' song, but I have to give him credit and say he always managed to change it up. He has so many different versions of it, that I'm not sure which is my favorite. Well, that's not true. His performance of it on the ARIAS for the first time is the best IMO.

Can someone please remind me again why he didn't win?

Because the fat one had sass.
I can't stand Anthony, never have. He always seemed to false on TV like I could just tell he was probably a real byotch in real life, and I don't like the way he sings, it's very put on and fake. He should just sing using his normal voice. And I hate the way when he does a loud note he stops suddenly and turns his head and closes his eyes. Channeling MJ anyone?
Also don't like his new haircuts now that he's officially a "gay". Looks like he was one of the kids in Honey I Shrunk the Kids and got attacked by the lawn-mower.

I didn't get to see the competition but as a complete outsider I'd have to say maybe it was his hair? Or the fact that Josh Groban put out The Prayer and he can sing circles around him or the fact it's Andre Bocelli signature song and he can sing circles around anyone. The kiss of death in America is for some chick to try to sing a Whitney Houston or a Celine Dion song. JMO adding my two cents

Not saying Aussie Idol is 'better' or 'worse' then the American version. I agree is mostly crap. My original point was the someone with more singing ability (ie, Anthony Callea) was beaten by someone with almost none at all.

I don't think it's rigged either. Like I say, never underestimate the power of a million txting thumbs. I saw the "Carly Eviction" again today and Brooke was genuinely stunned that she was 'safe'. So was everyone else.

I don't know.
With Daultry they knew he was going to go the band route and he would do well even if he didn't win.
The year Clay lost to Ruben Studdard. Simon kept saying "we don't know how to market you (to Clay) when it was over and Ruben won there was some questions about the voting, they said it was so close that it could have gone either way and it didn't matter b/c Ruben had already won.
I think they tweek things here and there. To much money riding on the top three, no way are they going to give it to a Sanjaya (or however you spell it)
ah heck everythings rigged these days...

Sometimes I'm suspicious about rigging too, but aren't these things audited...much like the results of pageants, etc.?
One thing I am convinced of is that AI has always been a popularity contest. Carly was talented, for sure, but she lacked a connection with the audience. While I could appreciate her talent, she did absolutely nothing for me. I'll be the first to admit that it takes much more than just a great voice to impress me - its the whole entire package.

I think Anthony had the best singing voice on Idol (so far). And , for the females, Cosima had an awesome voice - I didnt like her but used to like listening to her sing. Too bad she never made it big.
Bobby Fylnn was just creepy, anyone remember his version of Superfreak? lol I was stunned with how he sang it lol.

I would say that Carly was kicked off because most Americans don't want a non-American to win, but I didn't see her performance.

Carly was kicked off because she isn't as good as the 2 Davids but she's deffo MUCH better than the other 2 women.
I've always been a bit iffy about Carly. She's had a previous record contract which used to be a No No for this comp. And her contract didn't work out which doesn't happen without a reason. Plus I'm afraid she doesn't have the cookie cutter 'perfect' look for success in the music industry, especially for women. It's totally unfair but in America you have to look good before anyone will take you seriously. I know it's very subjective but show me ONE female singing star who could be described as ugly (Britney doesn't count).
