I've been a big fan of Anthony's for awhile now. IMO, he's been the best contestant on any show, in any country. I still have no idea why he lost - though an Australian friend said it probably had to do with tall poppy syndrome and that he wasn't perceived as being himself (ie gay, but pretending to be straight). Regardless, he's an amazing singer. I love his deep, rich voice. Back at One was brilliant.
You're point is well taken though. I guess it depends. Here in Canada, Kalan Porter (winner of CI2) was very shy and timid and, like David, many admired him for his humbleness and humility. It worked for him, but seems to be a negative in the American version.

She is a very good singer but unfortunately she was never going to make it because of her weight. Don't yell and get all PC on me people, it's true and you know it.
From a talent point of view I'm not sure why she beat Anthony Callea either. He was and is always a much more 'commercial' package and his career since then has certainly proved it. Perhaps people were hoping that the record industry would be able to see past the obvious fact that she isn't a size 0 but after the initial flurry of excitement after she won she has sunk back into obscurity.

So far I like Carly, Jason (dreadlocks), and the Aussie guy that reminds me of early Michael Hutchenson. The rest are just ok to me. You can tell the chick with the skunk stripe doesn't want to be there so I don't get her being there still. I'm curious to hear what style they pick for 90's and if any even attempt to go grunge. I just wonder how small is there choice list since they seem to pick such off the wall crap in many cases.

I can't wait for this week. They've announced a Beatles theme, can't wait to hear what Beatles song Amanda (is that even her name? the girl with the skunk hair that can only sing 1 style) tries to make sound like a Janis Joplin song.
The highlight of the group sings for me this season have been watching her suffer through them. You can tell she absolutely hates being forced to do that corny shit and its hilarious. She knew what show she was auditioning for, she needs to suck it up and stop acting so put upon for having to do part of the show.

Michael Johns has the right voice to do Nirvana.

They should just forfeit the season. David A. so has this in the bag. I can't wait to see what he delivers during Beatles night next week. Rest assured it won't be a "gloomy" ballad. I'd love to see him change it up and do "Get Back", "Twist and Shout" or "Ob-la'di". He'll definitely get the better song of the group as The Chosen One.

I get frustrated with contestants such as Amanda who enter the show but clearly do not feel like being there. IMO, it's a waste - best they do not audition and let someone else take the spot. I do not want to see Amanda's unhappy face every week.

I think this may just be my projections onto Amanda. But does anyone else see what I think is her homophobia? Have you noticed she NEVER allows Ryan Seacrest to shake her hand or even touch her? In fact, I have seen her back away from him when he went to drape his arm around her shoulder as he does with every contestant after they have listened to the judges. I think that is part of her problem when she displays that sourpuss expression.

I'd noticed that Amanda rarely does acknowledge the judge's praises, and does not even smile or say a simple 'thank you' to them. I do believe she over estimates herself because without this show she'll just another pub singer.

Actually, if you watch her carefully, it's not just Ryan she's like that with. She doesn't seem to do the huggy/kissy thing to anyone (note when the girls all stand together at the end of every show hugging each other). You can tell she doesn't like the hand-holding that they do when they show the females in the lineups, either. I don't blame her...I wouldn't like it, either!
I get the vibe that it's just not her "thing". She seems like a nice girl, but out of place on AI. I think she would rather be kicked off the show than perform like they have to. I'm sure the singing numbers they do as a group makes her cringe, too...lol

Yes, I know what you're talking about. I guess it's because of her background story that makes me read things into it. Her membership in a motorcycle club, the tattoos and chains, etc. And please, I'm not ragging on people who ride Harleys or have tattoos...although that isn't my style. It's just the whole snarly package I suppose.

Amanda is disrespectful to the audience and the judges. no eye contact while she's singing the song, doesnt look at the judges when they address her. if she was in an audition, they'd throw her out on the street. if she isnt meaning to do it, then she better snap out of it. i certainly dont remember her being like this during auditions and hollywood week.

I am SOO sorry..... I'm afraid I must've been the one to spoil it for ya'll.
From now on I promise to keep my trap shut until everyone's had a chance to see.
David Archuleta: It does seem that he'd be eaten alive by the industry, but he also seems quite mature for his age. I think he'll be able to handle it just fine. I love the purity of his voice. Is he 16 or 17?
Michael Johns (Aussie): He's cute and has charisma. Decent voice and great stage presence. I'm proud that he's adopted Georgia as his home state! He lives in Buckhead, which is the upper scale part of Atlanta.
David Hernandez: Seems nice and has a decent voice, but is missing the "it" factor.
Kristy Lee Cook: I bet she'll be going soon. Very pretty girl, but a bit boring.
Ramiele (cute Filipina girl): She's adorable, but for some reason I just don't dig her.
Carly Smithson: She really does have a good voice, but she just doesn't do it for me.
I don't know..... the girls are all pretty much poo this year imo.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it wasnt you! but i have been dealing with this for years, i've learned my lesson a long time ago. i just didnt remember what time it was THERE as opposed to the west coast. There's a lot of places i dont frequent on AI nights, such as Perez, TMZ, msnbc.

I seriously think she'd be a hellava lot more comfortable if she was in the same group as the guys. I bet her demeanor would completely change..lol.
If she does get booted next week, I think we'll see relief in her eyes
