Nooooooooo, the Foul Play cast is PERFECT, no way should it be redone. No one else could do those characters that well. I say just leave it alone!![]()
Hey all!
Been watching a lot of movies on AMC, which got me wondering if the movie were to be remade, who would be recast in the roles? So, I thought it would be fun to pose the question to the brilliant minds on GR. Here are the requirements:
1. Movie has to have been made and released between 1955 and 1984
2. It can't have been remade already
If you have any suggestions, please PM me with them. We'll do a new one each week.
The movie this week is: Foul Play (1978)
Goldie Hawn ... Gloria Mundy
Chevy Chase ... Tony Carlson
Burgess Meredith ... Mr. Hennessey
Rachel Roberts ... Delia Darrow / Gerda Casswell
Eugene Roche ... Archbishop Thorncrest / Archbishop's brother
Dudley Moore ... Stanley Tibbets
Marilyn Sokol ... Stella
Brian Dennehy ... Fergie
Marc Lawrence ... Rupert Stiltskin
Chuck McCann ... Theatre manager
Billy Barty ... J.J. MacKuen
Don Calfa ... Scarface
Bruce Solomon ... Bob Scott
So who would you recast in these roles? I'll take a stab at it:
Glora Mundy: My fav would be Leisha Haley. She is brilliantly funny with comedy. Next would be either Kate Hudson or Jennifer Aniston
Tony: Has to be someone funny yet can be somewhat serious and be a romantic lead. Gotta go with Luke Wilson
Mr. Hennessey: I wanna see Clint Eastwood go back to stupid comedy, this time with a snake named Esme.
Delia Darrow: Francis McDormand. Can you just imagine Francis and Clint fighting? Hells yeah!
Archbishop: John Malcovich. Natural choice.
Stanley Tibits: My favorite character, and where I fell in love with Dudley Moore. If John Cleese were a little younger, I'd say him. Can't really think of anyone right now
Stella: Ball busting Stella... I gotta throw Queen Latifa in here just because she rules.
The Little Bible Salesman: who else but that crazy ass Verne Troyer
The albino dude: Tom Cruise. He's batshit enough to pull it off and its a small enough role where he doesn't hog the movie
Scarface: Christopher Walken. The best bad guy ever that you kinda like
Dude who's pickup is used to get to the theater: Matthew McConaughey, a nice little cameo for him.

I suppose Kate Hudson would work, but I can't think of anyone good enough to fill everyone elses' shoes. Well, maybe Hugh Jackman as Tony.I do like Tom Cruise as the Albino, Christopher Walken as Scarface, and Vern Troyer as The Dwarf.
Hmm, maybe Bob Newhart as Mr. Hennessey?
I actually own this film and love it. I'm going to have to think on who I would like to see in each role.
Kate Hudson could work. I would also like to see Isla Fisher.
Into the sunrise. The sunset is sad to me….it only means the night is coming.
