Default Pics of new Star Trek film

Nearly 40 years after we said goodbye to Captain James T Kirk and his comrades, the cult sci-fi series Star Trek is returning.
Trekkies are no doubt counting down the days until Lost creator JJ Abrams' new Stark Trek movie hits cinemas next May.

But for those who can't wait, producers have released the first images of the new cast of the film, which includes some familiar faces.

Boldly going where they've never been before: [L-R] Anton Yelchin (Pavel Chekov), Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Karl Urban (Bones), John Cho (Sulu) and Zoe Saldana (Uhura)

Brit comedian Simon Pegg, 38, unleashes his Scottish accent to play engineer Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott, while Heroes actor Zachary Quinto, 31, dons pointy ears to play science officer Mr Spock, previously played by Leonard Nimoy.
Nimoy will return to Star Trek, playing the older version of Spock, who comes face to face with his younger self in one pivotal scene.

Pegg enlisted the help of his Scottish wife to perfect his accent for the movie.
Chris Doohan, the son of original Scotty actor James Doohan - who died three years ago - has a small role in the film.

Relative unknown Chris Pine, 28, has been given the responsibility of breathing new life into Captain Kirk, previously played by William Shatner.

Unrecognisable: Eric Bana plays Romulan villain Nero

The handsome actor, who played Lindsay Lohan's love interest in Just My Luck, has promised to show a new side to Captain Kirk and has cited Harrison Ford's Indiana portrayal as inspiration.
He said: 'Not to say that I modelled my version of James T. Kirk on anything in particular but I think I definitely have wanted to bring that kind of Harrison Ford humour to Kirk.'
Director Abrams originally said he hoped to find a cameo for Shatner in the film, but didn't want the script to 'shove him in because that would be a disaster'.
Matt Damon was originally touted as potential Captain Kirk, but Abrams revealed he was 'too old' for the part.

Munich actor Eric Bana is making a small cameo role in the film, as Romulan villain Nero and Winona Ryder briefly appears as Spock's human mother Amanda Grayson.
Fans of the American Pie franchise will recognise John Cho as lieutenant Hikaru Sulu. The Korean-American actor famously played one of the M.I.L.F. characters in the teen comedies.

Striking young actress Zoe Saldana, who played Ashton Kutcher's love interest in Guess Who? and one of Britney Spears' best friends in her 2002 road movie Crossroads, steps into Nichelle Nichols' shoes to play communications officer Uhura.

New Zealander Karl Urban, who played Eomer in the Lord Of The Rings movies, plays Leonard 'Bones' McCoy, previously played by DeForest Kelley.

The youngest of the cast, Russian actor Anton Yelchin plays officer Pavel Chekov.
Yelchin, 19, is the son of Russian figure skaters Irina Korina and Viktor Yelchin.

Little has been given away by the film's plot, but it was serve as a prequel to the original Sixties TV series and show all the cast as much younger as they appeared on the show.
The new Star Trek movie is expected to be released in the UK on May 8th 2009.

The first picture made me laugh! It looks like it could be a comedy.
When you came in the air went out. And every shadow filled up with doubt. I don't know who you think you are, But before the night is through,I wanna do bad things with you.
