Default True Life: I still watch MTV

Lokking at the Gauntlet 2 thread, I wa reminded about the stupid shit MTV shows on their airwaves. BUt the one show that I'll watch on their channle is True Life.

True Life is a documentary show basically. It's the only smart show I know of on that channel that does'nt involve stupid losers or crappy music. Anyway my favorite episode would be wither the "I'm obese" or the "The perfect body" episodes.

THe obese episode because one of my cousins is heavliy obese and the boy that was on it reminded me of him. He got made fun of on the street by some people and yet he would still go to MCDonalds and buy junk food. He and my cousin are alot alike and my cousin is on a waiting list for gastric bypass (he weighs about 350). And the "perfect body episode" because that bodybuilding guy (I think his name was Anthony) was hot and had a nice ass.

SO does anyone watch this show?

I watched True Life last night and caught some of the obese episode. I'm sorry to say, the girl's legs/ankles grossed me out. I still do not fully comprehend how people become morbidly obese unless it is a form of slow suicide but these people seem to have a lot to live for. It's all really sad.

I auditioned for the "I'm Obese" episode. I woulda been in the part that the cute black woman was (the plus-size model). I got through a bunch of the interviews but didn't make the final cut. They liked that I was body-positive in general and still led a perfectly normal life for an 18 yr old (well, I was 18 at the time of audition) including going out and dancing at frat parties all night, plus I've done modeling in the past, have a pretty active dating life, etc. I like the girl they picked though, much better story.

It's a great show, I think I've seen almost every episode.

I like this show, too. On the "I'm Obese" episode, it annoyed me how the teenager kept saying to his mom that gastric bypass surgery will "fix everything" and he will start eating healthier once he gets the surgery. Why couldn't he start now? I felt sorry for him, but he seemed like he didn't want to put forth any effort to lose the weight. I noticed that he lives in the same suburb that I do. Oh, and on one of the older episodes, "I'm an Urban Cheerleader" that team's cheerleading coach is now my kids' gymnastics teacher. She's kind of a bitch.

It's a long story why I tried out. When I was younger I was part of a size-acceptance group. Nickelodeon (who is part of the same company as MTV) was casting for a show called A Walk In Your Shoes and they wanted a plus-size teen for the show because they had already cast a girl who hated fat people. They got in touch with the group I was with and the group recommended a few people, including me. I sent in an audition tape for the Nickelodeon show, and got through almost every single round of auditions. It was down to me and another girl from the group I belong to for the part and she got it. Then, 3 years later MTV was casting their True Life show. They somehow ended up at Nickelodeon looking at my casting tape for A Walk in Your Shoes and got in touch with me again. So I never officially pursued it, but I never turned down any part of the audition process either. It woulda been fun to be on the show, but I'm not all torn up because I wasn't cast.
