Which Movie did you think was better than the Book?

Can any of you think of any movies you thought were better than the book on which they were based?

By and large, I find movies based on books to be crap. The only one that I found superior was Lord of the Rings.

Yeah I agree, everyone reads a book in a different way, each persons imagination differs so when you get to see that film from which the book you so loved I think you will always be a little dissapointed - in your mind you will be thinking "that's not how I imagined it at all!"

It's a tricky one. i don't actually know if I have any examples of books versus films. I do know that I enjoyed The Green Mile in book and film form but I can't say which in my opinion was better. The same as the Exorcist and all of Steven Kings books. Carrie in book form was absolute pants in my opinion.

Its a tricky question thats all I will say. The only film that you will think is absolutely fantastic will be when the director had the same vision as yourself.

Only one. I saw the old b&w film Witness for the Prosecution (1957)
on TV and thought it to be great (dated by its overacting, perhaps,
but such things are inevitable). I eventually read the short story
by Agathie Christie -- short is the word for it, it's only 33 pages --
and found it lacking. The Charles Laughton character had to be
built from the ground up -- even his "LIAR!" speech was nowhere
to be found in the book.

I thought Sleepers in movie form was better than the book...I thought the book was a little slow...more than half of it was just describing crap they did in hells kitchen. Finally in the last 3rd of the book it got down to something other than "life in hells kitchen"

I can't recall any movie that was better than the book. Some are more or less 'as good' but most movie versions of books are a great disappointment.

Bridget Jones i thought was better than the book it made me laugh a bit more plus the bok was a bit long winded the film sorta shortened it down but still summed up the same story!
