King Kong
I went to watch it last night. I enjoyed it, I really felt for the big daft gorilla!
However, I wasn't overwhelmed by Naomi's performance. She had this huge Gorilla roaring in her face and all she let out were a few ooh's and aah's I just didn't find her very convincing. Jack Black was good, but he seemed to have this constant vacant expression on his face, it just got a bit annoying after a while. Sure he's on a strange Island discovering all these new amazing creatures but come on! Yet other times, when you'd expect them all to be horrified and surprised, they weren't!
Some of the fighting scenes with Kong were very impressive, but I felt they were dragged out a bit and went on too long so I began to lose interest and the longer they went on, the less impressed I was!!
I've only highlighted the bad points here, so don't be put off, overall it is a really good film and I did enjoy it.
ANyone else seen it or is going to see it?

Re: King Kong
i just caught it today, i felt the movie was a little overwhelmed by the weird creatures. and i'm not a big fan of insects. but i enjoyed it, didn't seem like 3hs. Honestly i like the big ape performance more then the pretty blonde lady. andy serkis did a great job as kong! This is one movie you have to catch in the theatres.

Re: King Kong
I've seen it twice, once at the premiere and once after. It's a good movie that could have been great if it was edited down and some of the extraneous parts deleted. That said, I was very entertained and do recommend it.

Re: King Kong
I found it terrific and well balanced. The special effects were amazing! I'll have to see it again because I did not know beforehand that Andy Serkis did Kong! (Don't know how I missed that, being a LOTR fan.....) I should have known, recognizing him as "Lumpy the Cook".
Sure, some parts are unbelievable, some perhaps not needed (shallow character development on a few of the ship guys), but all-in-all, it's well worth seeing.
We took the boys, 8, 10, and 13, and they each enjoyed it without even a "fidget"!
(Narnia's special effects were also beautiful)

Re: King Kong
I might go see it; I think Jackson might have taken it seriously.
He certainly took LOTR seriously; if he'd fowled up, he would've
been slaughtered by a bunch of middle-aged men dressed as elves.
ALSO --
I don't know where else to post this, but it's interesting --
censored b&w footage from the original 1933 movie of a
black native being squashed by King Kong. (Very short --
3 or 4 frames)

Re: King Kong
I give the visual effects an A, cinematography an A, the inter-species love a D (it was creepy to the point of being gross), the casting choices a D. I thought this movie was pure cheese. Halfway through the movie I thought I was watching Jurassic Park. IMO if you're going to make me sit through more than three hours of a movie, I damn well better be learning something and not watching useless crap.

Re: King Kong
We tried to go see it last night but it was 90% under 18 crowd and there somehow were more tickets sold than actual seats.
Truth is I didn't care for the first one so I'm not particularly troubled at not getting to see this one either.

I know, I didn't realise it was him either until I watched the making of the movie last night!! I think it was so well done, you could tell what Kong was thinking the whole time even though all he had to use were facial expressions! He was better than Niomi anyway!!

Re: King Kong
I had trouble with the Jurassic Park scenes too...
I haven't seen any of the previous King Kong movies and didn't even know how it ended... I kept desperately hoping a good soul would bring him back to his island, poor lonely King Kong I cried when he died (well... I always cry at the movies )
What bothered me is that although the girl played by Naomi Watts goes through all kinds of horrible encounters, she manages to keep her hair nice and fluffy, her robe unshred and almost clean, and she runs barefoot without ever suffering the slightest scratching on her tender skin
I didn't know Adrien Brody was in the movie, this was a good surprise, he falls into my category of ugly-but-very-attractive men
The captain of the ship is quite a hunk, too... who's he?
Overall the movie entertaining, but not unforgettable.

Re: King Kong
I can hardly stand to look at Adrien Brody's wonky face. I saw it and was underwhelmed. Certainly isn't the best film ever like some reviews have been suggesting. Naomi Watts looked like a gormless rabbit most of the time - her two front teeth sticking out and her mouth open all over the place. Jack Black was just stupid. Special effects looked crap in places i.e. on the boat. But it's worth seeing at the cinema. It's good, just not as good as they'd have you believe.

We watched both the 1933 version and the 1976 version last week. Hubby said-look at us-so engrossed in this movie that we haven't even said a word! I had never seen the original. It was pretty good for 72 years ago. Hubby said Kong looked like he had Parkinson's cause he shook so much...

Re: King Kong
Barbara didn't give the movie away. Kong dies in all the versions and that's certainly been out there; it's hardly a spoiler. BTW in Titanic, the great big boat sinks! :-P
