Default I am watching a documentary called "Baby Bible Bashers"

    It's kind of disturbing

    C4 Thursday 14 February 2008 9pm

Samuel Boutwell is a seven-year-old preacher. He takes his vocation to save sinners from rotting in eternal hell extremely seriously.
Most Saturdays he stands in front of his local abortion clinic in Jackson, Mississippi and, bible in hand, bellows:
'Don't kill your child! Repent! God loves the little children!'. View picture gallery >>

Baby Bible Bashers follows the extraordinary stories of three of the Lord's 'chosen children', and their relationships with God, their families and their congregations.

In addition to Samuel, we meet nine-year-old Florida firebrand Terry Durham, who likes nothing more than to don his oversize blue suit and alligator shoes, and whip the crowd into a frenzy. Terry holds the honour of having been the world's youngest ordained minister at just six. Brazilian sensation Ana Carolina Dias began preaching at just three years of age and regularly commands TV audiences of millions. Her mission: to save the hardened gang members and drug dealers of Rio's shantytowns.

This film by BAFTA award-winning director Amelia Hann, follows these pint-size preachers as they go about their missionary work spreading the word to 'drunkards, adulterers and thieves' and uncovers the unsettling and often disturbing truth behind child evangelism.

I thought 'bible bashing' meant making fun of the bible.

There's a film out called 'jesus camp' that deals with the same thing.

Ah, fundies. Always can be relied on to bring the 'crazy' and 'disturbing'.

What disturbs me most about this and Jesus Camp is that these children are not having a "normal" childhood. They are being brainwashed by their parents and are not even given a choice on what they could believe. I'm sorry, but I do not see being 6 years old and deciding to be an ordained minster, and who the heck is listening to a 6 year old guiding their moral path!?

I missed this last night but they had a great write up in the reviews today. Seems like it was full of all kinds of crazy.

That's what I thought too, but I just found the following: Bible thumper (also Bible beater, Bible basher) is a term used to describe Christian fundamentalists, or anyone perceived as aggressively pushing their religious beliefs upon those who do not share them.

Yeah kid, go preach that over in Africa where God's Children are blessed with starvation, violence, and rape. Or heck, down in the other side of town where God's babies live in rat-infested slums, get beaten by their parents, and have no chance at education or having their basic health needs ever met because their mothers weren't allowed to talk about birth control and were shamed into keeping babies they can never support. How many kids are condemned to a Hell on Earth because people are afraid of going to hell after they die because they read it in the Bible?

What f&*#ed ME up about Jesus Camp, was that little brunette girl with the bob, she obviously has mental problems and no one is getting her help. She looks depressed and manic, did you see the part where she's shrieking "Blood, blood, BLOOD!" at the camp? Frightening. She'll only get worse in that environment. Mark my words, she's schizophrenic and will be living on the streets someday or incarcerated for murdering non-believers.
