Default Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew Pinsky

Ok, did anyone else watch this train wreck on VH1?

Holy shit, Jeff Conaway. He looks 10-15 years older. What a mess. He can't even stand up, he's in a wheelchair. Stroke victims look better than him. If he doesn't go through this rehab, I'm putting him on celebtriy deathwatch. And his girlfriend doesn't want him sober. If she did, then she wouldn't hold the roll when he snorted his coke.

Mary Carey is such a whore. She was seeing who she could fuck in the first hour. They took her dildos away, and she's like, "How am I going to masterbate?" The nurse looked at her like she was nuts.

Why the hell is Chyna there, other than being a fame whore?

I used to have a big crush on Dr. Drew when I listened to his radio show years ago. He knows his stuff. I wonder if he still practices because it seems as if he's on the Dr. Phil trash path.

OMG - I could not believe Jeff Conaway! That is seriously the worst thing I've ever seen. I mean, you know it's bad when you're a cautionary tale to other druggies and alkies who're in the same rehab facility as you.

And Dr. Drew is one of my long-time secret crushes. I used to love him when he was on that MTV sex show. He was always so intelligent, composed and he's good looking too (in a book-ish sort of way), which never hurts. I doubt there will be more than four of those people left by the end of the show.

There's tons of interesting articles about this new low in
reality TV. One of them (sourc Boston Herald):
Bad trip: VH1 sinks to new low with unfeeling ‘Celebrity Rehab’ - BostonHerald.com

Bad trip: VH1 sinks to new low with unfeeling ‘Celebrity Rehab’

By Mark A. Perigard, published Jan 10, 2008

    Celebrity Rehab: F
Not even two weeks into the new year, we have a strong contender for
the worst TV series of 2008.

There’s no sugarcoating this pill. “Celebrity Rehab” is heartless, exploitive
    and downright toxic.

The latest “celebreality” show from VH1 includes such stars as Jeff Conaway
(“Taxi”), Joanie Laurer (better known as WWE wrestler Chyna), actors Daniel
Baldwin and Brigitte Nielsen, Jessica Sierra (“American Idol”), musician
Seth “Shifty” Binzer and porn star Mary Carey.

They are all seriously ill people, addicted to such substances as alcohol,
marijuana, opiates or a combination of them. Laurer is in denial about her
out-of-control partying. Carey arrives drunk at the facility and fumes when
the staff confiscates her collection of sex toys.

Conaway may be 57, but years of drug abuse have aged him decades. He
can’t walk. When he arrives at Pasadena Recovery Center in California, he’s
practically comatose. When he is conscious, he suffers from delirium, violent
shakes and hallucinations. When he vents, he sounds suicidal.

With cameras installed in just about every nook of the facility, VH1 milks
each cringe-worthy moment. The tags preceding commercials hype
    Conaway’s next meltdown.

    Is this entertainment?

A & E’s “Intervention” spotlights addicts in crisis, but the cameras halt at
the rehab clinic doors. There’s a good reason for that. Given the nature of
recovery, an addict needs to be in a safe place to thrash out the issues
    underlying their disease.

Dr. Drew Pinsky (MTV’s “Loveline”) mouths the right things about recovery,
and the cast is seen briefly in group and private therapy sessions. How
honest will anyone be knowing millions may be watching? The temptation to
edit oneself in a positive light must be enormous.

Perhaps for that reason “Celebrity Rehab” focuses on personal drama,
placing it only a few inches down the gutter of the cable channel’s “Surreal
Life.” (Nielsen and Laurer met on an edition of “Surreal Life,” demonstrated
in flashbacks, and are happily reunited here.)

“Celebrity Rehab” unwittingly documents an even more pernicious addiction
awaiting clarification from the American Psychiatric Association: The craving
on the part of some to win fame by living every moment of their lives
oncamera, offering up every shred of dignity as if it will validate their worth.

Some TV shows make it fun to play a voyeur. This series will leave you
feeling dirty. For those who enjoy this type of programming, there’s no rehab
    that can help - yet.

Who actually thought this was a good idea? If they were getting Twitney or Lohan on there, maybe I could see WHY a network/channel would put this on, but this is just sad, sad, sad. Watching this would be like putting a "Feed the Children" commercial on a loop.

    I would lose my mind.

I haven't seen the show. YET. But I will.

From what I understand, these 'celebrities' (and I use that term loosely) were unable to afford traditional or typical rehab, therefore, they chose to do this show as an alternative.

Not sure it can be classified as 'entertainment' but I am sure I will like it all the same. Because really, at the end of the day, its all about feeling better about yourself right?

Why is it exploitative? The fat Baldwin wants to be the Patron Saint of Addiction, so who am I to deny him?

Jeff Conaway will soon dissolve any pity you may have initially felt for him. I caught him on Celebrity Fit Club. He is one angry, bitter, selfish nasty addict. I really liked how he blamed the doctors for "giving him so many pills!" Uh, no doctor shopping for you, right Jeff?

Mary Carey was really sad. She's the epitome of a woman who has been sexually abused all her life and that's the only way she knows how to relate to people. I don't have much hope for success with her. More power to her eventually becoming our Prez. She couldn't be worse than Shrub.

I really like Chyna and Brigitte for some unknown reason. They're both gross fame-whores but I think I could hang with either of them without vomiting.

The fat Baldwin. What can I say? I fucking hate him. I saw him on that 20/20 show. He was so freaking arrogant. He was in some rehab place and got the cook pregnant. Gross.

I might have a crush on Dr. Drew after this. I used to think he was a big fame slut before, but now it seems like he's genuine. He might really help these people.

If anyone remembers Jeff Conaway from the VH1's Celebrity Fit Club, you'd recognize he was halfway down Death Blvd. on the show. He regularly blew up emotionaly and it was revealed he was taking some meds during the show. I guess Babylon5 money didn't go towards rehab in the 90s.

I can't believe Drew is part of this. Even with his radio and TV personality he's always kept his professionalism. Somehow this seems to sensational for him. He must know this can't be a healthy way for these people to rehab. He must know.

Jeff was so sad to watch, and his girlfriend was a total enabler. She didn't even seem to notice how sick and incoherent he was.

And I've never heard of anyone going to rehab for smoking pot- does that one girl (don't remember her name) do other drugs?

^^Jaimee never mentioned other drugs but supposedly she cleaned up her act and stopped making porn movies. During her porn-star era she went on alcohol binges and did E or other pills to loosen up.

Jeff is the worst. It's kind of difficult to watch. I'll have to agree with the article it's exploitative. It would've been different if it's a show on the whole rehab process but this show is for "entertainment" purposes and nothing else. No one watches VH1 celebrity-reality tv shows to be informed or enlightened. But then again reality tv are pushing the boundaries constantly and anything to spark controversy and up viewership is alright in their book.

I still find it hard to believe that the film crew for Big Brother Africa didn't stop filming and/or the house mate who allegedly sexually assaulted another house mate. This was broadcast live.

How does one in Jeff Conway's condition legally consent to be filmed for a reality series?

    I smell future lawsuit.

And I think it's totally and completely wrong to exploit people (even loser's like *fill in the blank*) during their rehab.

They are obviously not going to take rehab seriously since it's all just one giant way to get more attention- toxic attention.

Dr. Drew is as bad as Dr. Phil only not as ugly.

No one forced any of these celebutard addicts to rehab in front of the cameras, they signed up for it. They're all used up fame whores for sure, but I wouldn't say they're being exploited. After constantly hearing how celebs get away with so many things us normal people would be locked up over, I get a kick outta seeing what pathetic losers they are.
