    Default My Favourite Film

Last year the ABC here in australia did a show called 'My Favourite Book'. I loved it, it reminded me about books I had read long since forgotton such as 'Catch 22' and went back to read them again.

Yesterday they showed the 'My Favourite Film'. Viewers get to vote on their favourite film of all time. Unfortunately no Australian Film got into the top 10 (Gallipoli? Mad Max? Picnic at Hanging Rock? Come on people!).

    This is the top ten:
    1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
    2. Amelie
    3. Blade Runner
    4. The Shawshank Redemption
    5. Donnie Darko
    6. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
    7. Pulp Fiction
    8. The Princess Bride
    9. Gone With The Wind
    10. Fight Club

and you can see the top 100 here:
    http://www.abc.net.au/myfavouritefilm/top100.htm

Just a note I thought I would add. Lord of the Rings also got the top spot in the My Favourite Book show.

What IS it with the Shawshank Redemption? It seems very pedestrian and emotionally manipulative to me, and very obvious.
I am from the American CIA and I have a radio in my head. I am going to kill you.

I had to study Shawshank for english in year 8 so I can never get into it properlly. Pulling apart a movie scene by scene really ruins things.

the panel who did the show was split with amelie - the girls all wanted to slap her and called it shallow, the men thought it was cute and nice and fun. It was really stange, I personally loved it, its a great escapisum film which is really what the whole movie experience is meant to be.

It's not like they can't compete with H'wood films in terms of quality.

In Japan there was a brief period when the only two movies
I watched were "Glengarry Glen Ross" and "Breaker Morant,"
both of which have their roots in the theater. These are still
my two favorite films of the past 25 years or so. If there's a
better script out there than Breaker I haven't seen it,
even though I couldn't appreciate it in 1981 when I first saw it.
(Boer War? WTF? Where was that? Who'd they fight? etc.)

    1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (meh)
    2. Amelie
    3. Blade Runner (I wish people would give up on this film.
Are they all a bunch of teenage geeks?)

    4. The Shawshank Redemption
    5. Donnie Darko (You cannot hide mediocrity with obscurity.)
    6. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
    7. Pulp Fiction
    8. The Princess Bride (Made-for-TV pap from a made-for-tv director.)
    9. Gone With The Wind
    10. Fight Club (pretentious brawler movie with homoerotic
overtones so thick I'd be very much surprised if it wasn't
    Michael Musto's favorite film... )
