Good, but they tried to screw the screenwriter out of his credit
by claiming they made 90% of it up as the went along. To this
day, people still don't think there was a screenplay for this movie.

IMDB lists Hopper, Fonda and screenwriter Terry Southern
but Southern had to take them to court to get credit.
Ever since I found out about that, I've thought Dennis Hopper
deserved pretty much the ending he got in Easy Rider.

You know I remembered this movie from my wastrel youth as really trippy, wild and great. And then I rented it as a 40-something from Blockbuster and had to wonder exactly how many brain cells I fried in the 70's. It wasn't the brilliant masterpiece I remember, hell it wasn't even interesting or made any coherent sense. Give me "Five Easy Piece" or "Klute" or just about anything from that time frame except "Easy Rider" Too many drugs, not enough plot line.

Sounds like the Fear and Loathing of my parents' generation. Might have to check it out.

Sounds similar to the memory I had of Saturday Night Fever. I remembered it as the greatest movie ever, but when I watched it again 20 years later, the actual movie, apart from the music & dancing, sucked.

I've never seen Easy Riders, but it's like an icon to me anyway.

Like the carpet in the first casino in Fear and Loathing? I can be completely sober and I'll still ask, "hey is that thing moving?"
