Default 'Twilight'

Triple threat (Director/Writer/Production Designer) Catherine Hardwicke is directing 'Twilight' based on Stephanie Meyer's bestselling young adult series. And Miss Meyer says she's thrilled with the choice of Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen in the Romeo & Juliet vampire film. Three books have been published with two more in the works. Summit Entertainment hopes to turn this into a franchise.

I loved Hardwicke's directoral debut 'Thirteen,' such an exquisitely disturbing film. Whatever happened to Nikki Reed?
Can't wait to see Robert Pattinson on the big screen again Yippee! He's such a droolworthy, young Brit.

Oh wow. I bought the book out of a total whim in November having no idea what it was about (bought Interview with a V same day, also coincidence), and it's been lying under my bed all this time and then the other day I discovered a movie version coming out and so right now I'm sitting in the lounge reading the synopsis online and the book in my other hand, and I have to say I think I've found a winner.
I loooooooooove US teen stories with a difference!

Anyone else get dragged to a theater full of teenagers to see this? I didn't read the books, but have a friend who agreed to take a group of kids but didn't want to sit alone. I thought it was an entertaining movie (premise) but the Make-up Artist and Musical Director should be shot - truly truly horrid on all accounts by both. UGH - the music was bad early 80's soap and the make-up was as if a 5 y/o tried to make someone look like a "vampire" -too obvious. All the men looked like the the Queer Eye guy or Austin Scarlet (from Project Runway). It really made it hard to watch.

The books are good, my daughter got me to read the series. The movie was pretty horrible, the acting was stiff, and the makeup was bad. The only scene's I liked were the baseball game and where the Cullens were cooking dinner and Rosalie smashes a bowl of salad when she finds out bella has had dinner when she first meets them. It was kinda funny b/c my daughter and I were both admiring her shoes.

I just came back from the teather to see Twilight and to be honest I'm really suprised by the whole movie. I never read the books, the only thing I knew was that it would be about vampires, but ... wow, I was sure not excepting such result. The sexual tension between the two main caracters just blew me away the whole time and I don't think all kinds of teenagers can get this vibe, but to me it's a really good movie.

The only thing I have negative to say : The stupid little girls giggling the whole time made me furious.

^This film is critic-proof. It got bad reviews mostly from middle aged male critics who reviewed the film without taking the romantic sensibilities of the target audience in mind. Female critics (and the males that understand the demographic) reviewed it a bit more favorably. The teen/tween/adult female demographic is woefully underserved by Hollywood because young males tend to be more prolific moviegoers. I think this movie will do alright because the fangirls/fanwomen are seeing it over and over again, much like they did with Titanic.

Not saying it will do Titanic box office because it clearly won't. They'll make enough bank to hopefully pump a decent budget into New Moon which is going to be trickier to film in my opinion. We'll see.

The critics hit it on the head - the acting WAS awful, the make-up WAS awful. I'm just surprised they didn't hammer on the music. There's a big difference between cheesey and campy. The original Buffy movie was campy and holds up. This movie was pure cheese.

I did torture my daughter all day yesterday with..."You're beautiful, like diamonds"

^^ What do you expect? It's 2008. All originality has been used up in the world. And all the people who have no talent are doing things. It was always inevitable.

Anyway, I hate the music on the soundtrack. I am a fan of the original book, but I am NOT a fan of Muse and the like.

I just saw it. Pretty faithful book adaptation. It was kinda good/OK but did not suck me in like the book had. However, watching the movie's first hour (which closely followed the book's events) made me realize how slow moving and boring Twilight the book is. I must have been too dazzled to not have noticed this at first read. That, or I'm really sick of the protracted hype of the series and the movie.

As for the acting, the chemistry was palpable and I thought that Bella and Edward were portrayed well. The movie is supposed to be melodramatic and cheesy like the book so I can forgive some of the overacting. It was appropriate. They are tortured by their love for one another and it shows.

Rob Pattinson is a god.

I would not be averse to seeing it again. It's definitely worth seeing if you've read the books.

How about just "the book"? I refuse to read Eclipse.

^^Eclipse was my favorite book after Twilight. I guess it's my favorite now. I can understand why you wouldn't want to read Breaking Dawn which was weird and out of sync with the rest of the book series. Eclipse worked for me.

Just go see the movie when it finally hits Australia screens. If you've read the book, you'll be able to appreciate the movie. The movie really does capture the essence of the book.
