Default Jake Gyllenhall to play Joe Namath in movie

Jake Gyllenhaal is a Football Player

Wed, 28 November 2007

Jake Gyllenhaal will be playing Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath in a feature film, according to Variety.
Exec producer Jimmy Walsh believes that the ‘athletic Gyllenhaal is the right actor to play Namath.’
While other quarterbacks racked up bigger lifetime stats, Namath became the first football player to achieve rock-star status. The pic will tell the story of how the golden-armed kid from Beaver Falls, Pa., became Broadway Joe, the New York Jets quarterback who became a ’60s cultural figure.

Ok, for some reason, Jake seems a tad small to be playing Joe. Joe's a big guy, and has huge, broad shoulders. I'm interested to see how this is pulled off.

Hell, I'll watch it. Hope they show the drunk Joe on the sidelines of the game in which he tells that female ESPN reporter that he loves her and wants to kiss her.

That's what I'm wondering. Jake's a little pipsqueak. Usually actors who work out for a role get ripped, but don't add much mass. There is a big difference between a gym-body and an athlete-body. It's looks vs. functionality (if you will).

^Yea, Jakes athletic, but not built at all like Joe Namath. But, perhaps through the magic of movie making he WILL look like him.

Imagine, Toothy Tile playing Broadway Joe. Somehow it does fit.
