Winona Ryder to play Spock’s mom in next Star Trek film

Our little (reformed?) shoplifting heroine, Winona Ryder has signed on to play the Vulcan mom of Mr. Spock (Zachary Quinto of Heroes fame,) in the next Star Trek installment to be helmed by JJ Abrams.
The role will see Ryder don the prosthetic pointy ears made famous by Leonard Nimoi in the sci-fi series. Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film will focus on the early journey of the original Enterprise crew and is due for release in December next year.
