    Default The Color Purple

I'm about to watch it again, haven't since last January (I usually play it once a year, in January, but I forgot this year, so I'm going to watch it now!)

Honestly, perhaps one of the best movies ever. Oh I cry so much in this film! Like, more than any other. Especially when Celie is reunited at the end. The music, the look on Celie's face as she kisses her sister (it's like: "Holy shit is this real? She's really here! Oh Lord this is real!"). I also cry when the sisters are torn apart at the start and the sister goes: "Why!?? Why!!? Argh!" (gets hit by dirt)

One of the most moving pieces of cinema ever. It beats the crap out of all this new-age "artistic" crap.

I dislike this movie(here comes the stoning..lol) but I felt it was very over-acted and extremely emotionally manipulative(and done so in a very obvious and poorly constructed way). Example-when the daughter is returning to visit from Africa..and then on cue all the ones on the porch move forward together exactly as one with the same faraway look in their eyes...all I could think was 'this is so fucking staged and fake it is ridiculous".

    *runs to avoid the stoning*
Don't slap me, cause I'm not in the mood!

No stoning here. That's an I. Washington thing!
I can see where you're coming from. To me though, I thought it was less of a "moving as one, so cliched" as a pivotal point in all their lives. Stranger things have happened then a bunch of people nearby all turning to look at a strange bunch of shawls flapping in the wind.
    But each to their own.

Best thing I have seen Whoopi do besides stand up and Ghost, I guess. She was awesome. Did she win an Oscar?

Nobody won an Oscar for The Color Purple. Out of 11 nominations. Biggest diss ever.

^^ Seriously? I thought they won something. Bloody rip off - Whoopi is fantastic in this, as is Oprah.

I got the book last year from Mum as a present, after pointing it out in a book store. Brilliant book. Need to watch the movie again now that I've read the book... after exams!

Yeah I really want to buy the book too, but I worry that the story will be too complicated for me and I'll give up, like Gone with the Wind.

I love it. I cry everytime, especially when Oprah looses her mind!
