    Default Zodiac

While everyone awaits next week's "300" (everyone at work is talking about wanting to see this, lots of good buzz on it), tomorrow's openers that sound interesting is "Zodiac" based on the infamous serial killer in San Francisco.

    Potential good things:

    1. Jake gyllenhall, one of my favorite actors
    2. Robert Downey Jr., another good actor
    3. director David Finch, of seven fame
    4. a true crime story based on a real creepy case

    Potential negative things:

    1. like other serial killer "time period" pieces, seems like movie may focus less on the killer and more on the "heroes," the newscasters. While their lives and human interest stories may be cool, I watch serial killer movies to see serial killers.

I want to see it so bad!

But I won't lie, it's just to see my Jakey.

I saw it today, and I thought it was very well done. The beginning parts, showing the murders are very graphic, not for the faint of heart but the cast, namely Jake and Mark did a great job.

Ditto, except I was like 17. I think a friend loaned it to me and I thought it'd be some mindless, quick read. Damn thing almost made me have nightmares.

I wish they'd have gone into more detail about the Zodiac though. His killings seem (in the movie) to be fairly random. What was his motivation? There were also several leads brought up in the movie that no one followed up on. Why is that? I liked the movie. Mark R was fantastic but it left me feeling like they left a lot of stuff out.

That was one of my original fears about this movie. I haven't seen it yet but from the trailers it seemed like more about the time period and the journalists and their human interest stories than the serial killer himself.

Kind of like that spike lee movie about the son of sam killer. I like a lot of spike's movies but that one was pure ass, the serial killer whose story I was interested in was nothing but a backdrop to the uninteresting story of the lives of some random new yorkers.

I liked this movie. I love Jake. I read the book it was based off of a few years back. I wouldn't mind reading it again, actually.

I walked by the park where they were shooting the high speed chase scene a year and a half ago. They shut down the street near Duboce Park in San Fran, and there were vintage 1970's cars everywhere. I got to see a car peel around a corner and some guy in a brown jacket running away from the car into the park. Now I want to see it, just for Jake's screen presence.

I just saw this movie. It was good, Jake and Mark Ruffalo were great, as was Robert Downy Jr. Jake is good at playing a dork, I noticed!

I also wish it had centered more on the motivation aspect behind the killings. I think in the end they chalked it up to the Zodiac being a psychotic narcissist. He did it for attention and he liked taunting the cops so he could feel smarter than them that they never caught him.

And they must have cut out that scene I stumbled onto in Duboce Park. I was disappointed that there was no chase scene--all those vintage cars and blocking off of city streets, money spent on actors and crew just to have it end up on the cutting room floor....I so wanted to say "There I was!"

David Shire does the music. That and Jakey are enough to drag me alone, either to it at the movies or to the loungeroom in 6 months when I rent it.

OMGZ squee @ Mark Ruffalo in his underwear!
Lol, just finished watching it (took forever) and it was a very good film! Best film I've seen this year. I was paranoid the whole way through and didn't understand a few things, but other than that... very good!
