James Franco Remaking Tori Spelling’s ‘Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?’ for Lifetime

DECEMBER 21, 2015 | 12:55PM PTAnother big star is coming to Lifetime for an unexpected TV movie.
James Franco is set to remake the 1996 Tori Spelling telepic “Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?” for Lifetime, the cable network announced Monday.
The retelling of the critically-panned cult classic will coincide with the original TV movie’s 20th anniversary. Though no premiere date has been set, Franco’s remake will air on Lifetime sometime next year.
With a story by Franco, the new “Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?” script will be penned by Amber Coney. Hailing from Sony Pictures Television and Rabbit Bandini Productions, it will be directed by Melanie Aitkenhead. Franco will serve as an exec producer, along with Vince Jolivette, Diane Sokolow and Rachel Verno.
Lifetime has not released any casting info, but insiders tell Variety that more information — including whether Franco or Spelling would appear on-screen — is expected to be announced in the new year.
Originally planned for a theatrical release, after failing to find a distributor, “Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?” first aired on NBC in September 1996. Over the years, it has garnered a passionate following by way of reruns on cable nets, including Lifetime. Spelling starred alongside Ivan Sergei in the original boyfriend-gone-wrong flick.
Franco’s remake follows Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig’s “A Deadly Adoption,” which aired on Lifetime this summer. A spoof on Lifetime-esque television movies, “Deadly Adoption” was set out to be kept under wraps, though unsuccessfully after a press leak. After Farrell released a statement, saying that the film would not air after the “top-secret project was made public,” the movie-event premiered to 2.1 million viewers during its original Saturday night debut on Lifetime in June. With repeats, the film brought in around six million viewers during its premiere weekend.
“Mother” marks Franco’s latest foray into television. Up next, the Oscar-nominee will star in Hulu’s event series “11.22.63,” based on Stephen King’s bestseller, which launches on Feb. 15.

Edit: The big plot twist is now it has vampires and lesbians. The trailer is online, I can't link it on my phone.

Why do people say, "Grow some balls?" Balls are weak and sensitive. If you really want to get tough, grow a vagina. Those things take a pounding! ~ Betty White
