I was debating watching it, but the finale for Feasting on Asphalt with Alton Brown is on right now so I picked that instead

Saw it and liked it. She's pretty darn likable if somewhat ignorant, come through a load of crap, which makes Lifetime the perfect network to air it on.

I saw it. Now I wonder what's true and what's fiction since it's "based on a true story." Was she really raped in high school? Also I didn't think they really did those first round auditions THEN you got to meet the "real" three judges...the part of her "almost not getting to sing before Simon, Paula, and Randy" was probably made up. I mean when we see the auditions for Idol it looks like everyone lines up to go in there...they have the lousy singers as well as decent ones.

I fell asleep but not because of her performance. She was really great. But as we were discussing in another thread, Madonna's debut was playing herself in Desperately Seeking Susan.

I hope they show it here. I'm not a great follower of the endless Idols, but I did watch the one Fantasia won and I thought she deserved it. Apart from her obvious talent, I liked her modesty and her genuine gratitude to her fans for giving her the chance to do something positive with her life which up until then seems to have been pretty shitty. We don't see or hear much about her in Oz, but I guess her career is still doing well in the US?

We are just about to start Aussie Idol (3? 4?) and they are trying to make it more interesting by adding little "Big Brother" type twists and surprises in the audition process but it's the same old same old. The last winner, Casey something, sank without trace.

I think she was really raped. She wrote an autobiography upon which the film was based and it was mentioned there.

I also believe she was really raped, I remember reading that somewhere....

Also, the audition process for Idol is true, from what I've heard. You wait in line for the prelim auditions before you meet the real ones. The prelim auditions weed out the really good people, and the really bad people who are going to be the horrible auditions that get televised. The people in the middle just get to go home, for the most part.

Not really, I'd say. This tv movie is the first thing I've heard about her in ages. Kelly Clarkson is really the only idol you hear about consistently. Clay is pretty famous, but I haven't heard much about him since his little Marine scandal.

I was kind of wondering that myself considering she's admitted she has dyslexia and has a hard time reading.

Fantasia's since taken classes to improve her reading...I read somewhere that she now has a tutor. I'm sure she can read now...and I do think the American Idol auditions were rushed but I think it was because of crime constraints, not because they lied about it. They could only fit so much in 2 hrs and everyone knows she made it anyway.
