    Default Making a Murderer

Has anyone else watched Making a Murderer on Netflix?

My son was watching and telling me about it the other day. Think they were framed?

The documentary and what it presents definitely makes you think they were framed. Even if Avery wasn't, I really think his nephew was and is a victim in this. It's messed up.

I was going to watch it, but I listened to this Radiolab episode instead: Reasonable Doubt - Radiolab
It was heartbreaking because it focuses on the story of the first woman he supposedly assaulted.

Interesting! I'll have to listen to that as well. Only the first couple episodes focus on the first case that he was falsely imprisoned for. The rest of is about the murder of Teresa Halbach.

I'm a weirdo. I tried watching this and I couldn't get into it. The first episode did not make me want to watch the second.

I think because it's just too depressing, how easily manipulated our "justice" system is.

The woman was last seen photographing a vehicle on commercial property owned by this guy?

Yes, she took photographs of a relative's van that was for sale. The family owned a junkyard. What's interesting is that Avery was very up front that she had been there, didn't try to hide it at all.

I admit, I haven't watched it, but after reading a list of his prior offenses on Wikipedia, I could see him being up for just about anything:

Age 18 - pleads guilty to burglary and sentenced to 10 months in prison
Age 20 - pours gasoline and oil on his cat and tosses it alive into a fire (textbook early serial-killer behavior). Goes to prison for it.
Age 23 - assault and firearm possession (he was exonerated of the rape that happened around the same time, but the other convictions stood)

DNA proved his innocence of rape and the actual rapist was caught and in prison. Odd though, a physical description for both of them could be either.

My one concern with the documentary, it is one-sided.

I just watched the first episode last night.

The burglary was played off as dumb kid stuff... him and his friends stole some beer or food or something.

The assault with a firearm was an empty gun that he pointed at a cousin he was in a feud with. That same cousin is married to someone in the Sheriff's office, also has a good friend in the same office. The documentary makes it seem that his "assault" was way overplayed due to this cousin's connections in law enforcement. Those connections helped get him arrested later for a rape he did not commit and for which he lost 18 years of his life.

The cat thing was just sick.

This guy has an IQ of 70. He's painful to listen to because you can't believe he's an adult. Most 3 year olds are smarter.
