Default Your most and least favourite movie genres

I love martial arts and action movies the most
And I also like weird movies that don't make sense (e.g Mullholand Drive) or ones that are so far removed from my reality that I find them fascinating. I don't know if there's a proper name for this genre. but I just like trying to figure out what the whole movie meant, doing my little analysis and reading up on other ppl's interpretations.

The least of my favourite genre is romance movies. I'm not fond of the typical chick flicks, I just think they are kinda lame (e.g. Titanic! What was the big deal about that )...though I don't mind romance comedies.

If you think it's crazy, you ain't seen a thing. Just wait until we're goin down in flames.

I like film noir and abstract movies. I also like historical period pieces.
    Dislike action/horror/juvenile comedy flicks.

I can enjoy anything if it's well done, but I do require a plot and interesting characters, which leaves out most Hollywood fare.

I love a good creepy psychological thriller. I also like the old slasher flicks like the Friday the 13th/Halloween series [was never a fan of Nightmare on Elm Street ... they just got stupider and stupider].

Don't really care for 'comedies', but that's probably because they don't know how to make a truly funny movie anymore ... they all seem to be aimed at the brain-dead teenage set.

Favorite: Dark Comedies, Foreign Films, Period Films
Least favorite: Martial Arts, Action, Slashers (love Psychological Thrillers, as a kid watched Hitchcock, Thriller, Twilight Zone)

My tastes keep changing as I get older because I once LOVED slashers and action films.

I like anything except most romantic nonsense "The Notebook", because frankly.. it doesn't have anything to do with my life. i'm a homo! I could care less if this chick gets boned or not.

If the film is good, I'll watch it. If it's bad (but funny bad) i'll definitely watch it

I like several types of movies, but while I do enjoy a good teary drama, I have to be in the mood. Love a good comedy, classics and horror.

HATE anything sci-fi, blech. Also do not care the Gladiator/Braveheart type movies althogh I watched both as they are DH's fave movies. And again while I loved Airplane, HATE dumb, sophmoric comedies.

Classics (drama, comedy), sink your teeth into dramas (Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, Splendor in the Grass), Foreign French and Italian, any movie with Marilyn and Cary Grant.

Movies that I can watch 1000 times: Some Like it Hot, Pillow Talk, The Lonely Guy (Steve Martin), Metroland (Christian Bale), Heaven Can Wait (Beatty).

No scary movies. (Cause they're not fake! They're real!)

Okay, obviously anything Beatty (although horrible things like Town and Country cause me to cringe excessively). Still, he's one of the most underrated actors of his time (that's not just my prejudice speaking).

Now that we've got that out of the way

LOVE the classics: good romantic comedies (classics like "Bringing Up Baby" and the old and innocent Doris Day/Rock Hudson vehicles come to mind ), good drama ("On the Waterfront", "Giant", "East of Eden", "Gone With The Wind", "Cat on a hot tin roof".....), comedy/action/adventures ("Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", "The Sting"), stuff like that. All these classics included attractive actors, good acting, solid stories etc.

Things I like in general: comedies, as long as they're not braindead stuff like most Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson and gang vehicles. Even fantasy movies like "Pirates of the Carribean" (#1) are fun to watch. Dramas like "Kramer vs. Kramer", political/social commentaries (be it general movies or documentaries) like "The Candidate", "All The President's Men", "Bulworth" and "Fahrenheit 9/11".
Good horror and suspense (not the slash and hack type), like "The Exorcist", "The Omen" (original), "Psycho" (original), "Signs", "The 6th Sense".

Do NOT like war movies, most SF, most detectives (the private eye genre), politically correct message movies, movies in which children or teenagers act like all knowing, well experienced adults, ailment of the week movies, artistically highly praised movies (the ones with the interesting camera angles, long pregnant pauses etc. etc.).

I'm sure there's more I like and hate, just can't think of it right now.
Warren Beatty: actor, director, writer, producer.

    Least favs: Horror

What about fav movies? Hmm...on second thought, perhaps that should be a new thread altogether.

I love musicals, both the old fashioned kind and newer ones. I love ones that come up with some sort of explanation for all the singing and dancing.

I hate most period pieces and war movies. There are a few exceptions, but I usually avoid them.
