Oh good!! I was about to start a thread on Ken Burns' The Roosevelts. How good has that been?! I watched it Sunday night and last night. I never realized how aggressive Teddy Roosevelt was, but aggressive in a good way. I love what his daughter said, re: his need for constant attention and how "he wanted to be the bride at every wedding, the corpse at every funeral and the baby at every christening." LOL!

    Let's dish on this, ya'll!

All episodes are online for free on PBS - probably for another week. It is so good. The Roosevelts were good people and if you compare them to The Kennedy's, they're saints. .

Yeah, all that both TR and FDR did for this country is amazing.

i thought the roosevelts was really well done. and chalet, agree with your comparison of the roosevelts and the kennedys. as a matter of fact, i was thinking about that when i was watching the series (even before i saw your comment here).

and while they mentioned FDR's affair very early in the marriage, did they give any details about it? i just heard the refs several times during the series, so not sure if i missed the deets.

^^^FDR's mistress, Lucy Mercer, was in his life until he died. In fact, she was with him at that cabin at Warm Springs when he had the cerebral hemmorhage. Apparently, his marriage to Eleanor was more of a business/political arrangement.

I missed some of the Eleanor part, the last part about an hour into it. I'm guessing they never mentioned ER's love letters to her female friend, dating back to 1933.

^^^ they definitely hinted at eleanor having 'close' relationships with several women, but never explicity said she was a lesbo. at least, not that i remember. but the docu was so detailed, i could probably watch it several times and not pick up everything.

it is available On Demand, if you want to go back and watch it.
