Default The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

Jimmy Fallon kicked off his first night as host of The Tonight Show on Monday with a smorgasbord of celebrities - all there to pay up.
Lindsay Lohan, Robert DeNiro and Kim Kardashian were among a galaxy of stars to stump up 100 dollars for saying Jimmy Fallon would never make the lofty heights of hosting the show.

A host of big names including the likes of Mariah Carey, Sarah Jessica Parker and Lady Gaga were among an almost never ending line of celebrities who apparently bet the funnyman he would never sit behind the famous desk of the hit NBC institution.

Stumping up: Lindsay Lohan was one of a host of stars to pay out 100 dollars for betting he would not land the gig

What a Carey on: Kim Kardashian was joined by Mariah as a galaxy of stars won brownie points with the host

Would shoe believe it: Sarah Jessica Parker pulled her banknote from out of her stilletos

Making them go Gaga: The Lady wore a typically outlandish outfit when she appeared on the stage

Here for the applause: The Gaga gave Fallon a peck on the cheek after paying up

Introducing the gag, he told the audience: 'I cant believe this is happening. I'm really sitting here.

'To my buddy who said I'd never be host of the Tonight Show, and you know who you are, you owe men 100 bucks buddy.'

This started a veritable avalanche of stars to emerge from the wings, starting with Oscar-winning actor Robert DeNiro, who grumpily slammed the cash in front of the comic.

Here you go: Robert De Niro reluctantly handed over the $100 he lost in the bet

One for you, buddy: Former SNL colleague and friend Tina Fay was another famous face who paid up

Monday night jive: Comedy star Seth Rogan was another who attended after losing his wager

Uppercutting the queue: Shamed boxer Mike Tyson was an eyebrow raising choice to appear

The likes of Tina Fey, Mariah Carey, Lindsay Lohan, and Sarah Jessica Parker also appeared to pay their respects

There was even a nod to the past, with former guest host Joan Rivers, who was a protege of Johnny Carson, handing over some cash.

Convicted rapist Mike Tyson was an eyebrow raising choice to take part, but it finished in good form thank to Stephen Colbert.

The Emancipation of Mimi's money: Mariah Carey had to go to her special hiding place to find the money she 'owed' Jimmy

Kar-cashian: Kim Kardashian apologised for not believing in Fallon as she handed over the #$100

Ending on a high note: Satirist Stephen Colbert was the final celebrity to emerge from the wings

Selfie-obsessed: And they posed together for a photograph that will soon show up on Twitter

The satirist poured a bucket of pennies on his desk and down his suit, before he told him, 'Welcome to 1130 bitch' and took a cheesy 'selfie' of them together.

In the introductory part of the show, Fallon invited Will Smith to a victory dance to celebrate his new job as host of Tonight Show.

Of course the funnyman was playing it for laughs, and was recreating the Evolution of Hip Hop Dance with the Fresh Prince.

[LEFT] Victory dance: Jimmy Fallon danced with Will Smith on an hilarious skit on his first Tonight Show on Monday

The duo donned retro outfits of denim dungarees, garish T-shirts, gold chains and Timberland boots as they busted their moves.

For three glorious minutes they pulled out a series of classic
movies, such as The Robot and Crank That (Soulja Boy), while also making cheeky references such as the Kid 'N Play, the MC Hammer and the Carlton, the uptight cousin of Will's character on The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air.

But the sequence came to a shuddering halt when the disapproving movie star decided to leave the stage when Jimmy started giving a full-hearted performance of Miley Cyrus' trademark Twerk move.

Soulja boys: The pair showed off a series of classic moves in the Evolution of Hip Hop Dance skit

Throwback Monday: The pair were three days early as they paid tribute to Fresh Prince character Carlton

Cy-riously: Big Willy was not amused when Jimmy decided to give him a wholehearted twerking

Hope his viewers hang around longer: The funnyman was left speechless when Will stormed off the stage

It was just the latest installment in a series of 'Evolution of' videos by the host, which has starred the likes of First Lady Michelle Obama in an Evolution of Mom Dancing, and Justin Timberlake (with an Evolution of End Zone Dancing.

The show started with Jimmy giving a heartfelt speech to the audience at home.

He said: 'This is what were all about. I remember being a kid and asking my parents can I stay up watch Johnny Carson I thought it was a big deal to stay up late.

'They'd let me watch the monologue and I'd try and pretend I wasn't there they'd let me get to the first guest and whatever.

'I just think if there's a kid out there asking to stay up and watch me, it just means a lot to me. I hope I do well. I hope you enjoy this.'

On their feet: The crowd jumped up when it was announced the star of the show was emerging

Grand entrance: But Jimmy tried top win brownie points with a heartfelt speech before his monologue

Unbelievable: The star was falling over himself to say how lucky he felt he was to be hosting the iconic show

Inspirational: He said he hoped he would inspire boys at home the way Johnny Carson inspired him

He also what was perhaps an unintentional joke about Jay Leno's previous short lived replacement Conan O'Brien when he added, 'If you guys let me stay around long enough maybe I'll get the hang of it.'

In addition he paid tribute to his parents Jim and Gloria Fallon, and after blowing kisses and waving, he jokingly told them: 'Thank you for being here - I wish I could've gotten you better seats but, y'know, it's a very hot show Dad, very hot show.'

He then delivered a somewhat flat monologue peppered with Olympics jokes, before moving into more comfortable territory with his trademark sketch work.

In a fawning interview with Will Smith he begged the Independence Day star to give him some tips.

Big Willie gave him the same advice he gives his children, saying: 'I tell them keep loving people. Your art is a gift to people to help their lives be better and to be brighter.

Having a laugh: His parents were told they would have got better seats if it was not such a 'hot show'

Honoring his roots: The funnyman made sure he gave a shout-out to his popular backing band

Begging for tips: Jimmy was not too big a man to ask superstar Will for some tips on coping with pressure

No fear: The pair also discussed the actor's recent experience of skydiving in the middle east

'What happens a lot of times when you see people fail in this business is they're in it for their ego and they're doing it for them.'

But he also provided an ego boost to the nervous former Saturday Night Live favourite, telling him: '

Congratulations man, this is really huge. I wouldn't be able to handle the pressure you've got. Everything's riding on you tonight. This is beautiful. I feel honoured.

'I was watching all of the people that came to support you tonight.
People are coming for you. The Tonight Show is big and historic but people are coming for your heart.'

'I didnt like the dude being on me': Will joked he loved the experience despite being strapped to an instructor

Best wishes: Will gave him a firm handshake as his interview with the show's new host came to a close

He also threw him a bone by discussing his recent experience skydiving in the Dubai, saying: 'That moment when your in a perfectly good airplane and the door opens and the green light comes on and that moment where you are looking looking out and then you jump.

'Its absolutely terrifying and absolutely the most magnificent thing you'll ever experience. It taught me so much about fear.'

The pair were also gripped by Olympic fever, with Will claiming: 'I think I could win a gold medal in the thing with the broom. I don't know what the application is to life but when I look at that i feel i could really add something to that sport.

'Like the remix of the outfits I really feel i could bring something. Curling is about your attitude.'

A performance from U2 on a New York rooftop was also featured, with the Irish rock giants playing out the show with an 'impromptu' studio performance of their Golden Globe winning song Ordinary Love.

I thought the only thing that could have made that $100 gag better was if Leno came out and paid up too.
