Default Matthew Perry plans revival of The Odd Couple for CBS

He's making new friends! Matthew Perry plans revival of The Odd Couple for CBS after dreaming of playing Oscar for 34 years
The actor is set to star, co-write and executive produce a revival of Neil Simon comedy The Odd Couple for CBS.
The 44-year-old will play the incredibly untidy Oscar Madison in the sitcom about two mismatched middle-aged men who share an apartment, Deadline Hollywood reported on Friday.

The hunt is on for a co-star to play his obsessively neat roommate, Felix Unger.

The show will be co-written Danny Jacobson.

It's a passion project for Matthew, who told Deadline: 'Ever since seeing the movie The Odd Couple when I was 10 years old, it has been a dream for me to play Oscar Madison.

'To be given the opportunity to develop a modern version of it for CBS has put a permanent smile across my face.'

The 44-year-old has wanted to play Oscar since seeing Walter Matthau in the part in the 1968 movie

The 1968 film was based on Neil's hit play, which opened on Broadway in 1965 with Walter Matthau as Oscar and Art Carney as Felix. Walter kept the role in the movie spinoff with Jack Lemmon as Felix.
But it's the 1970 ABC TV series that most viewers remember starring Jack Klugman as Oscar and Tony Randall as Felix, which aired for five seasons.
The new version for CBS will be filmed in front of a live audience like hit sitcom Friends in which Matthew starred from 1994 to 2004.
His most recent TV sitcoms include ABC’s Mr. Sunshine, which he also co-created, and NBC’s Go On.

I always thought thought the character Niles on Frasier was an homage to Felix in many ways. So I vote for David Hyde Pierce.

Meryl doesn't even try anymore. She just calls Lanvin and asks for curtains with a belt.~Bitter
Can we interest you in Leann Rimes? She has a nice little cadre of fans you'd probably enjoy.~ Pecan Pie

I'd like to see Rob Lowe as Felix, I really want some eye candy. I think Lowe can pull it off. Now who would be great as
    Oscar's secretary?

I hope this is better than his last show. I didn't care for it at all....but my teenager thought it was funny.

Did anyone watch this Thursday night? I only caught the last 10 mins and I swear Matthew should be playing the Felix character. He just doesn't seem scruffy or masculine enough to be Oscar.

I watched it with disappointment. Mathew can not be any other way than Chandlery. Thomas was great as Felix. I hope the writing gets better. It seems very dumbed down.

    I agree Sprynkles.

Chandler would be a funny Felix I think. The 5 o'clock shadow isn't enough for the Oscar character.
