Tom Cruise inspires a Law and Order SVU episode

In a case of art imitating life, this week’s episode (and the seventh season’s finale) of the drama Law and Order: SVU focused on a celebrity insisting that psych meds are unnecessary — and the tragedy that ensues because of it.

The episode features a girl (played by Brittany Snow) mowing down a group of pedestrians in her car during a failed suicide attempt, triggered by her bi-polar disorder. We find out that she recently decided to go off her meds, because she saw an interview with a famous rock star who vehemently stated that drugs and psychiatry were bad, bad, bad. A news clip of the “musician” is shown in which he says, “You don’t know the history of psychiatry. I do. I’ve studied it.” Hmmm, sound familiar?

Tom Cruise spoke those same words to Matt Lauer — right before he accused Lauer of being glib.

The episode then deviates from real life, showing the “rock star” taking over the girl’s trial and brainwashing her into turning away from all who love and care about her.

The show was an obvious dig at the irresponsible messages celebs can send when they take their acting personas a little too seriously, and the dangers society can face when taking such messages too much to heart — especially when those members of society are young and impressionable.

Getting such influence to end, however, may just be a mission: impossible.

Saw the episode, new the "headline" that it was "ripped" from was a tom cruise thing, but my only thought is that there arent a whole lot of impressionable minds who are fans of tom cruise. It made sense in the episode it being a rock star, and I understand the message, but the majority of tom cruise fans (or former fans before all this mess) are people slightly older, and less likely to do whatever a celebrity says they should...

I'd say in Tomkat's case this is EXACTLY what happened in real life.

I saw this episode too and I immediately thought about the lunatic Tom Cruise and also the Michael Jackson fantards that believe anything MJ says and come troll on our board...oh and the Milla fantards.
