Thumbs down Tom Cruise 'working on' reprising famous role for Top Gun 2

    Will Maverick fly again?

Get ready ladies, because Maverick is gearing up to take to the skies again.
After 24 years, Tom Cruise says he may be reprising the role of Lt. Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in a possible sequel to the hit 80s film.

The 49-year-old actor told MTV News that he and the film's director Tony Scott were 'working on' getting a Top Gun 2 off the ground.

The revelation comes after Scott confirmed last year that he would direct the sequel.

And now Cruise says he has been eager to make another film with Scott for some time now.

'I said to Tony I want to make another movie with him. He and I haven't made a film since Days of Thunder [in 1990],' he told MTV News.

'We never thought that we would do it again. Then, they started to come to us with these ideas of where it is now. I thought, "Wow... what we could do now."

He said the sequel will pertain the same style of original box office hit.
'I hope we can figure this out to go do it again,' Cruise said.
'If we can find a story that we all want to do, we all want to make a film that is in the same kind of tone as the other one and shoot it in the same way as we shot Top Gun.'

The mega-successful 1986 original launched Cruise onto Hollywood's A-list and earned $350million worldwide.

Okay, all these guys are old and fat now. Kelly McGillis came out of the closet, Tom's still in it - nobody would buy a reprise of that romance. Val Kilmer as "Iceman"? More like "Assman" or "GutMan". And, Miramar has long been closed as a Navy base. How about we bring those guys back, have them go on a mission and get captured by Somalian pirates? And, nobody wants to rescue them? The first movie was cliched enough.

At least Goose had the good grace to die and spare himself this indignity.

^ I was gonna say, the only way I would watch is if Goose came back from the dead...

Actually, imagine how funny it would be if they brought back all the old actors in their present forms to reprise their roles just as if a day hasn't passed since the last movie.

I am assuming Maverick would now be a trainer, but I think it would by hysterical if we had another volleyball scene with Val -- as the beach ball.

That is the ONLY way I'd even think of watching this.

It wreaks of desperation. I think Tiny Tom is realizing his star is fading, along with his youth.

Oh Lawd. Let this happen because it can only be too hilarious. Ahh, Top Gun. I remember when that movie was the SHIT and everyone (mostly everyone) thought it was such a coooool fucking movie. I watched part of it on TV a few weeks ago and I laughed my ass off at how CHEESY it is now. Like the scene with Maverick driving his motorcycle next to a jet and giving it the thumbs up....Ahhhh!! I coulda died laughing. Yet...there i was in line (3 times IIRC), with my poofy big hair and fringed acid washed jacket, buying tickets so I could get swept away....excuse me, I mean Take My Breath Away~~!!

BWA and may I say HA. I loved Top Gun in the 80s, but it's not a movie that stands up to the test of time because when you watch it now, you just can't get who the actors are today out of your head.

Funniest (and truest) post I've read all day!!

I wasn't impressed with this movie to begin with. And, hell, that damn Kenny Loggins song was played 30 times a day throughout all of 1986!

All I remember about Top Gun is that afterwards 1/3 of the guys in my High School were wearing artfully distressed brown leather aviator jackets.

We had a retarded guy in our class to carried around a beat up old boombox and played the single tape of DANGERZONE over and over again.

I hated the original film, and that was even before my dislike of Tommygirl had blossomed into full blown hatred. I'd rather watch Hotshots! again.
